Dh can do HOD almost as good as me, haha!

Yesterday dh took over my school so I could go to a sewing shop. It was part of my mother's day present. I woke up late (he usually wakes me up just by him being up) and he was doing Bigger with my older kids again today even though he did not have to do it. I have been sitting here watching and listening and I got to admit he is almost as good as me. Seriously though he has just picked it up and ran with it and he is doing a really good job. It is really just open and go. I am so glad he has had this time to do HOD. He is really impressed with it. He was always because he saw the fruit of it in our children but now he really has gotten a feel for it by doing it himself. His parents were teachers and he is kind of a tough sell. He also is the one to take the kids to awana and he has gotten lots of complements at how well our children do at scripture memory and how well they can apply the Word. I know a great deal of this is what we do every day in HOD. We do also read the Bible with our kids so that is part of their knowledge but I was never able to teach application and memorization the way they can now before HOD. There is something about having it intertwined with the history and seeing those consequences of the Word laid out so well in character both good an bad that does it like nothing else.

One more thing about my dh I gotta say. It is now 10:56 and my kids are signing in the background their hymn. They are completely done with everything including LA and Math. He might actually be better at it than I am. I guess it is true men use less words.

I love how your husband stepped in to try our HOD so you could have a "day off" for mother's day! I think it says a lot about how easy HOD is to open and go when Dad can step in and use it well. My husband taught for a day last month when I went to the homeschool conference in KC. It was a 1st here, and equally as successful!

Sounds like he might put you out of work.

Your post made me smile today! I love the thought of your hubby being able to do HOD with your kiddos. It is truly wonderful that school doesn't need to grind to a halt when the momma is out of the picture.

My own hubby was able to keep our multiple HOD guides going this year, even when I was gone for conventions and for other writing related days away. My hubby is succinct in all things.

water2wine - What a nice Mother's Day gift! Your dh did such a nice job of teaching, and I think it's neat that your dc can think of both parents as their "teachers" now. My dh has not taught our school yet, but my Dad has, and he did a great job of it too. In fact, it made my heart do somersaults to eavesdrop on him teaching it as I got ready to leave for a convention. There's just something to be said about family teaching our dc about God right along with school that does the heart some good. I'm so glad your Mother's Day gift is still giving back rewards! You deserve it.

How wonderful to have your husband ready and willing to step up! I love how easy HOD is to use, my husband has done school a couple of times this year nad has asked on couple of ocasions if I wanted him to do it again. I guess I should let him have a another shot at it before we're done with LHFHG since he did seem to enjoy doing it. Thanks for the reminder to let our husbands in on the joy of homeschooling with HOD!!

My husband recently retired from the military (and ironically is "returning to active duty) and has been homeschooling our children since Oct of last year. Knowing he would be going back on active duty we opted for me to go back into nursing to get us over the hump until he gets back in the military. It has been a blessing for him and the children to have this interaction. Our son told me today that he doesn't want Kindergarten to end...that says alot about my dh!! It is fun to watch him teach school...we are sooooooo different in our approaches!! I wish when our dd is ready to start K he could do the same for her...who knows...a lot can change in 3 yrs...

As I was comparing curriculums this spring, this was one of the things I wondered about HOD. Over the past 2 years there have been some times that it has been necessary for dh or another relative to teach school for a few days. I have often spent an hour the previous evening writing out details for the "substitute teacher" who would not be used to all the flipping around in the manual and looking different places and reading abreviations. Thanks for confirming that this will be one more blessing of switching to HOD next year!!!!!!

You will love it. It is completely open and go. I don't even prepare for it when I do it and the days always flow very well. Some ladies do read through ahead of time but I just love that you really can fly by the seat of your pants. It runs pretty smooth for us this way. You sound much more organized then me so you should have no problems! HOD has been our best curriculum choice ever we are sticking with it for as long as they write them and repeating it with our youngest two! You'll love it!
