Ok, I have been having so much fun finding things at a discount- what a God send as we are so broke.
Ok, so I have a 7 going to be 8 yr old girl, and a 9 going to be 10 yr old girl. It looks like we will be combining doing Bigger
(though maybe Beyond). I got most of the books for the extension pack to do Bigger with both of them. My younger dd is starting with the emerging reader set- between what I already own, and what I have found cheap/discounted/free- I have The Early Reader's Bible (or several others I Think will work, my pciture looks like the cover of the other one online).. all of the readers starting with Amelia Bedelia and to the end- EXCEPT the nature reader (but I think we have the ones before this too)
THe only one in the extension pack I didn't find yet is Bud & Me.
Now the real question is, the story time readers and the DITHOR books. I am not sure exactly how to tell what level my older dd is reading at, but she is reading Charollette's web now for school, She has already read stone fox, a lion to guard us, sarah plain and tall....
Ok so, does it matter, first of all how closely these correspond to the history/science study being done?
Second, does it matter that ALL the books the child reads are on a certain level? I got several of the books on the 4/5 level, and a few on the 2 level. I also have several I was thinking of substituting, but I don't know what reading level they are on, and can't seem to find - dear america, good news club, tinkerbell books.... I mean she is goign to be reading the extension pack, plus we have the story time, and the 'readers' for DITHOR- so I am thinking it won't matter if some are easier and some are a bit harder?

choosing readers/read alouds questions
Re: choosing readers/read alouds questions
Good evening, Brenda!
There is no need to match the DITHOR books to history/science. All you need to do is match them to the DITHOR genre you are studying. Using fluctuating levels is fine, as long as your dd is reading books that are not stretching her way too far, or are much too easy for her. Only you as her mother will know what books fit her reading level the best, so have fun choosing, and you'll be set for the joys of doing DITHOR.
In Christ,
Julie
