sea shell book recommendation

Post by gestep » Sun May 03, 2009 10:21 pm

We are finishing One Small Square Seashore and love the last few pages with the different types of shells. We have several jars of shells that we are trying to identify but the One Small Square does not have most of them pictured. Does anyone know of a good guide book with pictures of lots of different shells for identifying purposes? We want lots of pictures and an easy way to find the different groups, kind of like what is in One Small Square but on a bigger scale. Thanks for any suggestions.

I don't have any suggestions for you but you might try asking your librarian if your library has anything.

The Peterson Field guides are very good, however I don't know if they have one specifically on shells. Otherwise, anything by Jim Arnosky is excellent as well. :D

Thanks for the suggestions. I found a great book that is exactly what I was looking for except it is out of print and used copies are over $200  I am chekcing a few on Amazon and will check with our library when I get there again. Thanks for the suggestions.
