DITHOR
I have a now seven year old that will be in the second grade next year. He has already read some of the books in the emerging reader set this year. I am wondering if I pick books on his level which would probably be somewhere in between the emerging reader set and the 2/3 level in DITHOR, would the student workbooks work for these easier books? It says that you can use the student workbooks with any books that you choose but there is no suggestion for books under a 3.0 level. Has anyone used the workbooks with these lower level books?

Re: DITHOR
Hav eyou considered having him start towards the middle or closer to the end of the emerging readers? Then once he finishes those, he should be ready for the Level 2/3 books and DITHOR. Just a thought!
ETA: There's so much more to the emerging readers than just reading. There's a schedule and questions to prepare them for DITHOR and higher level books-- fluency builds, comprehension builds, etc. So, maybe he could even re-read some of the Em Reader set and do it with the schedule and questions.

Re: DITHOR
Thank you so much for your input!! I think that it is a really good idea for him to re-read them. Now that I think of it, he has had some trouble with remembering what he has read and maybe the exercises following the reading of the books will help him to recall what he has read.
I was wondering if the emerging readers could be used with the DITHOR workbooks? I know that they are not as in depth as higher level books but was thinking that they might still work.
Thanks so much,
Christy

Re: DITHOR
While you certainly could use the Emerging Reader's Set with DITHR, as DITHR works with any book you choose, I agree with Tamara's great suggestions to do at least the last half of the Emerging Readers' Set. This will work well to slowly raise the level of your son's reading and to make sure he's comprehending well before heading into DITHR.

Carrie,
Thank you, I think that I will go ahead and use at least the last half of the emerging reader set. He still needs some work on comprehension.

Christy

I think this is a great plan, and it will not only prepare him really well for DITHOR, it will be fun too.jcbchristy wrote:Carrie,
