Adding a harder spine for Bigger?

Post by sted » Wed Apr 29, 2009 5:20 pm

Hi Carrie,

I've read your suggestions for adding a harder spine to "beef up" Bigger for a 6th grader. I've always like the looks of The Story of US by Joy Hakim. Do you think that would work or do you think your other recommendations are better?
Thanks,
Shannon

Shannon,

I personally have trouble with some of Hakim's views in her history series, so I'd lean toward the recommendations mentioned in this past post of mine (which are all ones we've tried with our own son). However, you would know best what fits your family. Link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=640

Hi Carrie,

I appreciate your information. Not being an American History buff are you able to elaborate on her views compared to the ones from books that you recommend? I am looking for ones that would be accurate but God-honoring as well.

Thanks for you help,
Shannon

The God-honoring part is definitely missing from Hakim, to the point of almost feeling anti-Christian. That rules those books out for us.

Carrie
