DITHOR & vocabulary

Post by annaz » Fri Apr 24, 2009 12:18 pm

I'm reading through the DITHOR sample and it says I think on Day 2, to use your vocabulary. What are you all using for this?

If you look in the appendix there are 3 worksheets to use for the Vocabulary Activity.

So it's provided? You don't need to find another program for vocabulary? The sample doesn't show this. I can't see the Appendix, because I don't have DITHOR.

Yep. There are several vocabulary worksheet choices in the appendix that you can copy. You have your child choose words from the book they're reading that they find the meaning to.

Annaz - Vocabulary study is also added in the HOD core guides beginning with BHFHG. It is done within the context of history, and that along with the DITHOR vocab. study, has really expanded my ds's vocabulary. Now, that we did it in PHFHG again, I've seen how adept my ds has become at using contextual clues to guess the meaning of an unknown word, uses a dictionary to check if his guess was correct, copies the appropriate meaning of the word, and then uses the word accurately in a sentence of his own, drawing a picture to visually represent the meaning as well. I thought you'd enjoy knowing that is coming as well, since it is such a successful thorough way to learn vocabulary right within the living books being used in history. I believe the vocab. study will switch to being in Science in CTC, but I'm not sure. Anyway, the way vocabulary is taught between DITHOR and HOD's core guides makes for a nice mix.

Yes, the ladies are correct! Also in Level 6/7/8, the vocabulary strategies are taught right within the Student Workbook of DITHR with corresponding student pages each week. :D

Blessings,

Oh goodie. That's fantanstic. I see now that the page that mentioned vocabulary said something about the activities in the back of the book. But it helps to know that it's very complete beginning in Bigger!!

Thank you!
