Another ? about English in CTC

Post by ShellyM » Fri Apr 24, 2009 9:22 am

I didn't want to hijack Missy OH's thread, but her questions were very similar to mine and it made me think of another question: for those who have 7th graders in CTC, will R&S 6 be made available through HOD, or do we have to buy it directly from R & S (or used or whatever). I noticed that only R & S 4 and 5 are being made available, and I think my 12 yo would probably be ready to do 6 by the end of fall as we are just starting Easy Grammar 6 now, and since R&S is so advanced we had better go with 6.

We did 4 in 4th grade and that was a mistake. I loved it, but it was definitely too advanced and my dd kept telling me how hard it was, but I made her do it anyway. I should have listened to her and gone down to 3 that year.

Also, I am assuming that 6 is not scheduled in the manual, or is it? If not, how fast should we move through the book, and do we do the writing assignments in the book, or do we just use the Writing with the best or another writing curriculum of our choice? Hope this makes sense, I haven't had my tea yet this morning!

MIssy OH, if you read this thread, thanks for asking great questions, they were just what I was wanting to know too!
TIA,
Shelly

Shelly,

I'll link you to my response to Missy's thread, as I think it may really help with some of your questions as well. :D Link: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3499

At this point, we haven't added Rod and Staff 6 to our line-up as it isn't scheduled yet in our current HOD guides, however we will most likely be adding it next year. :D

In your daughter's case, I would lean toward doing Rod and Staff 5 full-speed if you're beginning it at the start of the year. If you begin Rod and Staff mid-year, I'd lean toward doing 6 at half-speed (half in grade 7 and the other half in grade 8).

I would have your child doing the writing assignments in Rod and Staff along with Write with the Best as the two programs complement each other well. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
