Placement in DITHOR help

Post by sted » Tue Apr 21, 2009 6:27 pm

Which level program should I be using for a girl just going into grade 6 next year, who hasn't done any DITHOR before? The 4/5 level or the 6/7/8 level?

Thanks,
Shannon

I'd do Level 4/5 for a year, and then bump her up to Level 6/7/8 the next year. This is the advice HOD commonly gives to those starting DITHOR for the first time as a sixth grader (likewise, dc starting DITHOR as fourth graders often begin with Level 2/3). This will give her time to learn all of the Story Element terms, basic Godly Character Traits, and Genre studies before branching out into a very independent, more student-intensive study of them as is done in Level 6/7/8.

Shannon,

I agree that placement for DITHR is more based on how much writing a student likes to do and how independent that student is, rather than basing placement on the level of books your child can read. This is because you can choose ANY book to use with DITHR to meet your child's reading level so that doesn't factor in to placement as much as writing and independence does.

I'd lean toward placing your daughter in Level 4/5 as my3sons suggested, unless your daughter is a very good writer, is quite independent, and has had some previous formal literature study. If so, then I'd place her in Level 6/7/8. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
