Got my box and have everything ready to start Monday (pics)

Post by 1GirlTwinBoys » Fri Mar 27, 2009 10:02 pm

Me and the kid's are so excited to begin "Little Hearts". They don't want to wait until Monday but I have lot's of other things I MUST get done this weekend. Anyway, just wanted to share pic's of our "space". This is where we do most of the writing, math & phonics lessons since I have a white board on the wall etc... For reading we always go to the couch or my bed. :P

There is a lot going around homeschooling boards about this new "Workbox" system. I decided to make one for us because I LOVE organization and thought this was a great idea. Since I have twin boys and a daughter that is only a year older, we do all of our work together and they are still too young for independent work. Instead of a workbox for each one of them, I am only using one workbox system and have each lesson from HOD in a different clear bin. All of the bins are numbered in order of what we do next and when we complete our work, there is a smiley face inside the bin that they can put on the front and take the # off. This gives them a visual of how much we have left to do instead of them asking. They will know all the work is done when there are nothing but smiley faces on the front of the bins. :D The great thing about it is that I can get any hands on activities ready the night before and have it in the bins along with the book & lessons.

We do most everything in the kitchen and keep our laptop on the counter.

I love it! :D Your room looks so fun with all of the school stuff. And, it's so neat and organized!! I'm especially jealous of how clean your floor is. I seem to be able to sweep 4 times a day and still have dirt on the floor! Ahh, I guess that's life on the farm when your kitchen is also the mud room. And someday soon, I bet someone besides Grant will be able to sweep productively.

I bet you ARE excited to jump in. You're going to have SO much fun!

Your space does look great! I will also be using the workbox system with our HOD as well! :D I have two kids that are 13 months apart...6 and 5 and one that is 3 1/2, and we will be using the system with BLHFHG and LHTH. :D

I love your red walls too! I used to have them as well before we moved. Maybe someday again..

Have fun with your first day! You are going to love it! :D

Loved the pics of your school area! Beautiful home and even better- it looks like a fun place to buckle down and learn! I am contemplating the workbox system but not until my daughter is older and the kids I babysit are older. I pray for the best for you on Monday!!!!

Awesome room! By the way, where did you get that great organizer with the bins? I'd love to find something like that instead of the white plastic-covered wire racks?

Wonderful post! I really enjoyed seeing your learning room.

We're really enjoying the workbox system. You'll find it blends so well with HOD. Each HOD box in the manual becomes a box for us, then we toss in our extras. Love the simplicity of it!

Your room is great - I'm loving that farmhouse table with the squared off corners! :D

What a great and inviting space. I bet your kiddos just love to learn there. How warm. I am getting more and more excited about starting HOD next year. We will be in the midst of a move in June and I am hoping wherever the Lord takes us next we have a room for school...I so want to be organized!!

Thanks for sharing.
