Re: The reading lesson vs reading made easy
I don't know anything about the REading Lesson. But I've tried both RME and 100 EZ lessons...both times I've stopped 100 EZ lessons and gone back to RME. We don't do all the handwriting or the index cards...the kids just read directly out of the book so I don't have to do as much work. My first son was reading at an advanced 2nd grade level when he finished RME and we are half way thru for my kindegardener and he is reading great!
The lessons are short, but repetative and they both loved their reading lesson time! I would highly recommend RME!

I've not tried TRL either, but we have enjoyed using RME. We are about 1/2 way through it and my dd can read small books and just this past week read to me Green Eggs & Ham so it is working for us! Like the pp wrote, we also don't use the index cards and such. We did in the begining, but have gotten away from them. We have done the fun stuff like the word worm and sight word bingo games that she includes in the lesson plans.

We are using The Reading Lesson and we like it. I bought the book with the cd but only used it once so far. I never used RME so can't comment on that one. I would recommend TRL.

Re: The reading lesson vs reading made easy
I used The Reading Lesson with both of my daughters and they did really well with it. My younger daughter was learning to read at age 3 1/2 and my older started learning at around 4 1/2. They are both really good readers. If you haven't already, go to www.readinglesson.com and it has tons of info. on the program and lessons you can download. We bought it with the cd and they really liked that part too. It helps reinforce what they are learning in the book, although the CD isn't required and the program still works well without it. I haven't ever tried Reading Made Easy, so can't comment on that one. Also, here are some links to other discussions about TRL

Re: The reading lesson vs reading made easy
As a new homeschool mom who had been overwhelmed by the only other reading program I'd seen, (100 easy lessons) I chose The Reading Lesson because it looked simple, and it has been! My son was a young 5 when we started but he already knew the letter sounds. So we flew through the first lessons but have comfortably settled in to a 2 pages/day schedule. We've been at it for 11weeks now and we just started lesson 7. He's picking words out of other books that he can read, and can read certain beginner books from the library already! I've been very happy with TRL and will use it again in the future. It's been gentle, simple, and effective plus it builds confidence for the child early on.

We're also happily using The Reading Lesson with the CD. (My dd loves the little games on there, and they really reinforce the lesson that we're doing.)

Re: The reading lesson vs reading made easy
I chose RME as our phonics program because the reviews of it were very positive and it seemed to be one the easiest ones out there. The reviews were correct, it is easy to use, the lessons are scripted for you, though after a few lessons you won't need the scripting, and there is ton of activities with each lesson. The activities are great for reinforcement of the lessons. We also have stopped using the index cards, but still do most of the other activities. There is copywork and artwork with each lesson, so if you have your child do that in a story journal you will have a nice keepsake of your child's reading journey, not to mention their handwriting and art progress. My daughter also uses www.starfall.com, she loves the games and stories on the website. You can also download and printout, for free, all of the workbooks that they sell!
I use the worksheets as warm-up activities for my dd. We are more than halfway through the program and she can read simple books.
From everything I have read you wouldn't go wrong either choice
, best wishes.
Blessings,
Nancy

Which site has the free workbooks? RME or starfall?

Re: The reading lesson vs reading made easy
Thanks for all the input! I'm still looking into both.
A for starfall, we ordered their workboks way back. Can't remeber now, but they were ridiculouly cheap. But yes, you can print them off for free.

Starfall has the free worksheets. BTW, my dd usually does starfall 2-3 times week, she would do it everyday if I let her. LOLholyhart wrote:Which site has the free workbooks? RME or starfall?
