Firstly to many -his will not seem a big hallelujah-but here -for us .It is.My son did his art work
When we removed him from school last may it was after a very difficult term-the teacher called it non compliance. If the teacher instructed they were
to create a winter picture-he would make a paper sword or whatever else his imagination was creating. He struggled so much.I have no idea if it was just a developmental delay or a symptom of the aspergers /ADHD that we recently discovered - but he didnt follow instructions.
So when we first started HOD -we started athalf speed.Gradually increasing the number of boxes-and if he was required to do a piece of artwork -we worked on a deal-he did the task required first then we would allow him total freedom to create what ever he wanted. We had to really push him to finish the task-his mind was on what he was imagining .
Today
He created this
It was the task set in week 23 -to create a painting from the description from History Stories For children. We had no need to redirect him back to his task or to offer he could create hiw own masterpiece after he had completed his task.HE JUST DID IT!
And this is something we are seeing accross the whole curriculum .I think that is a huge developmental shift.
