Does the writing gradually increase in PHFHG as you progress

Post by playschool » Fri Mar 13, 2009 10:35 pm

I am still not sure which program to use for my ds and dd. I would like to combine, but I also see the benefit of splitting them up. I'd hate for ds to miss out on Bigger, though. I think he would really like the content in it. Dd would really fit into CTC, but due to $ and time restraints, Preparing seems like a better option. (Oh, it's still up in the air!) Now, after saying all of this, here are my questions, does the actual writing in PHFHG actually increase as the weeks go on? After examining the sample of the first week , I do think that my ds would be capable of the required writing in the sample. DD (11) could obviously do more than what is required, so onto my second question. Is there anything beside reading involved with the extension reading. For example is there written narration or any other kind of extra work required besides just reading the material? I'm sorry, I have another question, now that I think of it, does the parent work with the older dc (I'm thinking of my older dd) in the Rod and Staff English or can they read the text and work on it independently? She has been capable of this with her current ABeka LA when I decide to let her forgo using the DVD for that particular subject that day. She just reads the lesson and is able to figure out that she needs to do. You have answered so many of my questions in the past and now I am throwing more out at you.

We're not half way with Preparing yet, but I've looked ahead quite a bit and assessed and the amount of writing seems very consistent from week to week. There is no additional work with the Independent Reading and although the Rod and Staff is quite doable independently, you would need to check in with your child on this assignment for a few mintures before he/she begins or finishes.

Does that cover everything?

Thank you for sharing that info. with me. That really helps me to evaluate better if Preparing would be doable for my ds or not. Thanks!
