Is she holding her pencil correctly (pic included)?

Well, what do you think? Does this look correct? To me it looks like maybe she is wrapping her thumb around her pencil a bit too much, but I'm not really sure. Does it look okay, or does it need work? She seems very comfortable and has good control. However, I don't want her to have problems later on if something is not right.

I would say she is wrapping her thumb around too much, my 6yo does that too. We use a pencil grip from Walmart that had indentations for the fingers on it to help her figure it out.

How old is she? I would say leave her alone and let her work her self into the correct grip for HER. :) I'm a lefty too and people say that I hold my pencil "wrong".

Laurie,

I hold my pencil exactly like that, and yes it is the "wrong" way. You can use a pencil grip with molded finger spots on it to help her try to hold her pencil differently. However, she may end up with this grip anyway. We always tried to have our boys have correct grip, but we weren't successful with getting them all to do it!

Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks for the responses. OK, I will maybe try the pencil grip thing, but I won't stress too much if she just doesn't like it the "correct" way.
