Needing more L.A. for Beyond...

Post by tiffanieh » Fri Mar 13, 2009 2:23 pm

Hello...my oldest, Ethan (7) will be in 2nd grade next year. We are currently doing LHFHG but have already been in Beyond for the emerging readers with him (currently on Christian Liberty Nature Book) and will probably finish up this year with these and start DITHOR at the beginning of the school year.

Since I have the Beyond book already I've been looking at the gentle grammer that Carrie has built into the program and I'm thinking for HIM we need something a bit more. My youngest (1st grade next year) this will be absolutely fine for him...gentle is better for him :)! But as for Ethan, he's already well versed on Capitalization, most punctuation and is familiar with nouns. I'm thinking I'd like to do a bit more with him.

What do you all suggest? Should I resist the urge to add more grammer in and wait until 3rd grade or is there something that is still "light" but just a little bit more than what Beyond offers that I could add to his day?

Thanks so much for helping me in this area!

What about Rod & Staff 2nd grade English? Or, if you want to save that for when you do Bigger, you could use First Language Lessons.
16yo DD using US History 1 for 11th grade
14yo DS using World Geography for 9th grade
13yo DS using Rev to Rev for 7th grade
10yo DD using Creation to Christ for 5th grade
8yo DD using Bigger for 3rd grade
7yo DD using Beyond Hearts for 2nd grade

Thanks Julie...that's what I was thinking (I've been looking at the Rod & Staff English) but I wanted to make sure that I wasn't jumping the gun. I wanted to see what other experienced homeschool mom's would do in this situation. I want to challenge my children without overwhelming them. From what I see with Rod & Staff I don't think it would be overwhelming for him in the least. The Language Lesson for little ones seems a bit too much like what we are already doing (or are going to be doing in Beyond) with copywork, etc. We do ETC phonics books so he gets the spelling/copywork there too!

If you're wanting more grammar than I would advise Rod and Staff 2 as well! :D I did more grammar with my oldest earlier too, however with my next one(s) we're going the gentler grammar route first. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
