If you're using more than one HOD package do you do a separate family Bible time with everyone together? or do you do all the Bible times from all the packages with all the kids? I'm only using Beyond right now, but if I added an additional package the idea of having separate Bible times, separate memory verses feels foreign.... I was just wondering how it works in practice.
Thanks!
Lynn

Re: If you use more than one package, question about Bible time
We do HOD Bible separate and by level although my four year old loves the Bible memory and she has many of the Bigger verse memorized by osmosis.
We do a together Bible time as well. I am reading through the Bible with my children chronologically. I use the Narrated Chronological Bible. We are doing NT and will hopefully finish that before HOD Creation to Christ so that we can match with that in the OT. I gather all the kids for this. And to make sure that my little ones get it we add to HOD the Ergermeier's Story Bible and I read that to match what we have also read in the Bible. We consider this more life training than hs. This is hands down the best decision I have made with my kids. It is amazing how God blesses it. We have found it goes very well with HOD as well. I think it is really of great value to have a prayer and Bible time as a family separate from school. But it is nice to know if you can't get to that HOD has a great Bible in and of itself.
I like having both though. It has really prompted my children to dig deeper. We have study books to go with our Bible that are references. They will actually dig through those in their spare time to investigate what we have read. Never in a million years did I think they would do that. But they think nothing of it. Just goes to show you they think it is normal and just every day stuff if you do not tell them otherwise and in all honesty this should be normal for them.

Re: If you use more than one package, question about Bible time
I am using LHFHG for my two boys 5 & 7 and I do their bible time... with them.
then I am using Bigger with my dd and I do the bible time with her.
we do have circle time (group devotion) with the 3 of them all together. We memorize a long passage of scripture, do cathecisms and read what ever books we want... or seasonal.
It works.
the bible time with my boys do not take long at all..... and my daughter will be reading quietly on her bed
and then while the boys have a break (jump on trampoline) I do hers with her.

Re: If you use more than one package, question about Bible time
We're doing Beyond and PHFHG now, and we do the Bible times separate. I love that it really fits each of their needs so well. The Bible lessons in Beyond are just right for my little Riley to take it in, and the Bible study in PHFHG with Wyatt is much deeper and we get into more in-depth talks that I know Riley would be tuning out after a bit. I like that the length of the Bible verses fits about how much they each can memorize as well. I make it a point to sing each of their Bible verses with them. For my cuddler Riley, I hold him and we sway and sing together.
He feels very special to have me all to himself. For Wyatt, I hang my arm around his shoulder, and we sing together - he will wait until I'm available to sing. He looks forward to this time for us together. We also hi-light the Bible verses in their own personal Bibles as they memorize them - so they can see them grow. I've noticed both of them are more willing to open their hearts to me and to the Lord when it is more private. They share character struggles they are having more willingly, and I can adjust what I share with them based on their age - especially things that I've struggled with in the past and matters of temptation. I can see as they continue to grow older that I will especially appreciate this time alone. It does not take much more time, and it's so worth the harvest.
We do pray all together at meals, for each other's needs and praises, and we share what was special to us about what we did for the school day. This is a very short informal type of sharing, but their Bible learning often is shared. They also often say their verses to one another just for fun. We share our faith in other ways as a family all together - like talking after church about what we all took from the sermon. Music is a big sharing time for us here too. We listen to Christian radio a lot, and we often sing together and share what a song means and what it means to us personally. Anyway, I think that there are so many wonderful ways to praise the Lord as a family - w2w does a truly amazing job of faithfully doing this, and she is seeing the fruits of that - praise God! Both personal and family worship are important. I've found the personal/private conversations of faith are harder to do on a consistent basis with each of our dc than the family worship, so I depend on the HOD plans to keep me accountable that way.
In Christ,
Julie

Re: If you use more than one package, question about Bible time
We do all of our storytimes, history readings and bible portions together. Usually both kids will listen in to each other's devotionals and participate in each others' scripture verses. We have started reading through Egermeier Story Bible at bedtime. I read 2-3 stories from it at a time. I am hoping it will help the kids to get an overall feel of the flow of the bible, something my husband and I struggled with for awhile. I'm not sure the kids are benefiting from it as much as I am.
Nowaways if I'm struggling with a chapter in the bible, I go read it in Egermeiers...

Re: If you use more than one package, question about Bible time
We use 4 packages....
Every morning at breakfast we use the Beyond Bible block as a devotion and sharing time for everyone. I also have everyone memorize this verse and join in the kinesthetic movement together. We also sing hymns at this time, but not the selections from the cd. It is quite fun and they look forward to it. We listen to the songs from the cd in Beyond in the car. Then I meet with my oldest at a separate time to do his Bible from PHFHG and my youngest at a separate time to do hers from LHTH. WE do not have the cd for Preparing. If we did, I would have him listen to that as part of his Bible time. However, we only (purposefully) memorize the verse in Beyond.
