LHTH question

Post by Dustybug » Wed Feb 25, 2009 7:31 pm

If you do/did LHTH, did you do it five days a week or less? I orginally planned on only doing MWF, but my daughter loves it so much, I'm thinking about going on and doing a five day week, since the lessons don't take very long at all.

Also, if you finished LHTH before your child was 5, what curriculum did you do next or did you just repeat LHTH again?

We started out only doing LHTH 2 days a week. I tried to do other things the other days like MOPS, library story time, grocery shopping, etc. Samuel had just turned 3 when we started and I wanted to stretch it out. We are now doing 3 days a week and my plan is to finish up by the end of this year so we can start LHFHG at 1/2 pace in January.

If you want to do 5 days a week, you could definitely repeat it again especially with your daughter being so young. You will find that alot of the activities have younger and older learner options so you could do the younger ones this time and do the others if you repeat it. You could also use the other Bible and devotional that are recommended for older kids so it wouldn't be exactly the same experience. If you feel that your daughter is ready, you could also add a phonics program in when you repeat it. I definitely think that LHTH is very flexible and lends itself well to repetition.

We did it 5 days a week, when my kids were 4 and 2 and then again when the younger one was 4. If you are looking for stuff to do with your child to extend school out, we used the Brighter Vision stuff with both kids. It is a kit you get about every 4 to 6 weeks with a cd, book, and a workbook. they have a website if you are interested. My kids loved their stuff.

We started LHTH when my oldest was 3.5 and when we finish up he'll be 5.5. Here's how we did it (not that I planned this when we started, but it's how we ended up doing it.) We've always had a few days of the week when we're out of the house (Bible Study, swim lessons, etc.). The first year we did LHTH as is, probably one unit every two weeks - so 2 or 3 days a week. Along with that we would do some Kumon workbooks and of course lots of coloring, playdoh, puzzles, etc. We also took extended time off for holidays and summer vacations. This year, for what I'm considering ds's "PreK" year, we've been doing 3 or 4 days a week of LHTH, but also adding in Singapore EB, the Rod&Staff workbooks, ARFHW K and Phonics from LHFHG (basically the K version of the "right side" of LHFHG). We also moved about a month before the holidays started up this year so we literally took about two months off of everything at the end of the year. Next year for K, we'll be doing LHFHG with the 1st grade material (he's on the older side of K - he'll be almost 6 when we start).
Like I said, we didn't really "plan" it out this way at the beginning, but that's how it ended up working for us. HTH. :)
