Extension pack for Bigger or Preparing

Post by playschool » Sun Feb 08, 2009 9:44 pm

How long are the daily independent readings that are assigned each day for the extension pack of books? 5 pages? 10 pages? My older dd would need to be challenged but I would not want to overwhelm her with an exorbitant amount of reading. She is a good reader but she does not enjoy it. ( I wish she did.)

Does anyone have an answer to this question? Could you look in the back of your manual in Preparing or Bigger and tell me about how many pages are required reading for the extension pack? I believe from what I've heard it is found in the appendix. Thanks!

Typically the readings are a chapter a day in one story, then a page or two from a History spine and a page or two from the science spine.

playschool,

The readings are designed to be independent and to take about 15-20 minutes for the corresponding literature from the Extension Package each day. The additional science reading will add about 15-20 min. one time per week (at the Bigger Hearts level). Additional science is not scheduled in Preparing Hearts each week. A Child's Story of America also takes an additional 5-10 minutes on the days it is scheduled in Bigger. :D

If your daughter is a slower reader, it may take longer. We follow the CM-style reading shedule, which includes books read slowly and deeply over time. 8)

Blessings,
Carrie
