We are using LHFHG. I'm using the K science and handwriting and the R&S books and the 1st grade math. It's going great! From what I already know about my 3 yo, we will probably use LHTH with math and phonics and handwriting added, and then we'll save LHFHG for him for 1st grade, but we'll just have to see when the time comes. :D
Momma to my 4 sweeties:
DD 14 - MTMM and DITHOR (completed LHFHG, Beyond, Bigger, Preparing, CTC, took a couple years off, and now she's back!)
DS 11 and DD 9 - Preparing(completed 2 rounds of LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond, and Bigger)
DD 6 - LHFHG

Typically, Kindergarten or 1st grade. Either one, depending on the child. I have 2 1st graders in LHFHG, and my Kindergartner is doing the math and phonics for K in LHFHG, but the rest of it was too much for him. So he is doing the Bible and History and Rhymes from LHTH.

I think it depends on maturity and being able to sit still and listen as well as knowing your letter sounds and also age. I have a 4 year old that loves to do school and LHFHG is perfect for her. She did already know her letter sounds and was starting to blend when I put her in and I think if she had not I would have gone for LHTH. The great thing is there is a lot of flexibility so we were able to do LHFHG at half pace for a while and we will have used it for a year and a half by the time we are done I think. Works great for us. Praying you find the perfect fit for you. :D

I am still in Little Hands with my son and he just turned five. Whan we finish I will move onto Little Hearts with him. Right now we do informal handwriting and I he does Ordinary Parents Guide to Reading along with Little Hands. I could start him but will wait until August when we start our new school year.

I think doing LHTH helped my dc be ready for LHFHG a bit earlier than they would have been otherwise. We used it for K for both of them. For my middle ds, we did LHFHG half-speed for awhile, and then finished full-speed, taking 1 1/2 years to go through it. But, I think it would work well for 1st. grade too. Like water2wine said so well - that's the beauty of the flexibility of it! Hope you find the right fit for your dc! :D

We've used it for K for one of mine and 1st for another, so it can work either way!

Blessings,
Carrie
