Preparing Hearts... A Question about CHOW...?

Post by butterfly113 » Thu Jan 29, 2009 12:11 pm

Hello! I am a newbie! We are planning on using Preparing Hearts next year. I am wondering when there are pages to read from CHOW (Child's History of the World), are there Bible passages that correlate to the topic. Meaning, if in CHOW we read about Moses and Eqypt, do we do the same in Bible? The reason I ask is that sometimes in CHOW it is not always apparent the GOD is in charge... thus I am hoping for Biblical clarity! Hope this makes sense and someone can help me out. If I am not clear, please ask me questions, as this is important to our family in this decision! Looking forward to responses! Thanks!

Welcome to the HOD Board! I'm using PHFHG now, and the answer is a resounding "yes"! In fact, showing God's hand (and complete sovereign control) over history is one of the primary goals of HOD. I have especially loved the Basic Package history read-alouds for this purpose - WOW - they really bring the history to life and often showcase God's hand in it all. We're also doing the Deluxe History Independent books - my ds could hardly put down "Little Miriam" today! :D The Bible Study has also been wonderful, and there are many links to the Bible every single day (where we are reading passages out loud and together), often with the point of hi-lighting God's plan for history. I don't think it could be done any better. We are really enjoying CHOW along with all these Biblical links, and I don't know if you've gotten a chance to take a look at Grandpa's Box - but I must say that is one of my all-time favorite books for explaining God's Plan for redemption. HTH!

In Christ,
Julie

P.S. In CHOW, HOD skips over the beginning part about evolution. The plans pretty much always point out things to skip such as this.
