Newbie!

Post by Dustybug » Sat Jan 24, 2009 1:51 pm

Hello all!
I just wanted to say hello to everyone! I'm Dusty and I have two children, Gabriella who will be three next month, and Aron who just recently turned one. I plan on beginning Little Hands to Heaven with my daughter shortly after her third birthday and I am a little nervous about homeschooling. I feel it is the right thing to do for my family, but I am anxious that I will not be equipped enough to handle it! Well, I joined here in hopes to learn from more experienced homeschoolers and also from others using this program. I look forward to getting to know you all!

God bless!
Dusty

Dusty,

Something I have heard our pastor (when we lived in FL) say and that I repeat to myself often is this:
God doesn't call the equipped, He equips the called!

Obviously God calls both those who are already equipped and those that one may think are not. The point is, He can give you the knowledge and the skills you need...and believe it or not you probably already have most of them. God will lead you where you need to go. Begining homeschooling can be daunting, and I think we all doubt ourselves once and a while...even those who have been doing it a long time. So take heart, and be encouraged! If God has called you to this you will be able to do it. Just listen to Him...He'll show you His ways, and He will put people in your path that can help you with logistics and practical application. That's one of the things this message board is good for...so if you have questions, ask away. The ladies here are great to think things through and offer super solutions! By the way, welcome to HOD, I'm sure you'll love it here. :D

Dusty,

Welcome to HOD and homeschooling! :D I just know that you are going to LOVE doing LHTH with your daughter! (I know I am!! :D ) And, you will be so good at it! Now, I know that I haven't met you in real life, but the guide is laid out well so that's it's super-easy to use, and you have the most important thing going for you already because your heart's desire is to teach your kids about the Lord! (I peeked at your blog. ) The Lord will bless that and He will lead you and your husband in teaching the kids He's given you. He doesn't make any mistakes, so I KNOW that you're the right teacher for your kids!

Have fun!

Welcome Dusty!
Don't worry!! Doing LHTH with your daughter will be fun for both of you! It's such a wonderful program! :)
I have just started my own hs journey, three weeks ago with my two boys who are 5 and 3. The last couple of days I have been pondering in my mind (with joy and amazement) the fact that homeschooling is working out so well. I LOVE it, and my kids do too. The LHTH guide is just a great source of guidance and creative inspiration for a mom of preschoolers. All the prep work is done and I am sooo grateful for that! So I've been marveling at the fact that yes, I have "taken on" more by choosing to hs. But my joy is greater. My peace is greater. My relationships with my children have already been significantly enhanced. God's grace has been so evident.
I understand your thoughts re: being able to "handle it". For years I wondered about that b/c I don't have that structured type of personality. I have at times I have been overwhelmed just being a mom! Homeschooling has brought more structure to our home :D Now, b/c I'm not so great with sticking to a clock type schedule, we just use a consistant order of events type schedule. ie: we do LHTH when our little one goes down for her morning nap; storytime with lunch; LHFHG in the afternoons as soon as baby is down and ds 3 is either napping or at preschool. For now this works for us... don't you love how God will always meet you where you're at! Remember, too, you can break it up and do different parts at different times of the day.

You're going to love it. We are so blessed to have found HOD at the very beginning of our hs journey. I'll look forward to hearing from you once you get going!
Blessings! Victoria

Thank you all so much for your encouragement! I'm looking forward to beginning this program with my daughter. As of now, I am waiting for my Singing Bible CD and my Children's bible to come in, and then we'll be getting started!

Welcome to the HOD board, Dusty! :D I loved what inHistiming had to say - you are called, so you will be equipped. It is true - when we are called to do something by God (like teach our children about Him) - He equips us. LHTH is a complete joy to teach. It is just downright fun! It takes about 20-30 minutes a day, and the guide is not hard to use - I am 100% certain you are going to soar with LHTH because your heart is completely in the right place! If you have any questions at all, post away here - we fellow HODie sisters will help you through anything! :)

In Christ,
