I just want to thank all of you who offered advice about what I should do with my daughter regarding starting her in LHFHG while she was still four, especially Julie and Carrie.
We started LHFHG two weeks ago at half speed. She is LOVING it! This is the exact balance we were needing. It isn't too overwhelming since she is still young but it challenges her. I thought about waiting until the fall and doing full speed but this winter has been so hard behavior wise for the kids because it has been too cold to go out and play. So doing this every day has been helpful at focusing her energy in positive ways. She loves reading Reddy Fox. I read it at lunch time most days so all the kids can listen in. My two year old is having fun with the God's creation rhyme! I really am looking forward to the rest of this year. The only thing we are not doing right now is phonics because we got to lesson 58 of 100 EZ lessons and she broke down and hated it. That is how she is when she hits a wall. She refuses to try and you have to give her a break and then she starts back in just fine. I stopped and we are just having fun reading BOB books and no pressure on her. She is already reading simple words well. This summer I plan on trying OPG (Ordinary Parents Guide) phonics approach because I like the games and flashcards added in. I think she will too.
And the coolest part about LHFHG...she is getting history and science!! So easy and yet challenging..I know that is an oxymoron but it is true.
Anyway, just an update for all who helped me gather my thoughts!!!
THANKS!

I'm so glad it's going well for you! We also started LHFHG when my oldest wasn't quite 5 and I was a little nervous about getting going but it has just been wonderful! We are almost through now. Time has gone too fast! Anyway, I hope you really enjoy it. The characters from the Thornton Burgess books become like friends. We just started the last of the scheduled Burgess books and we were both a little sad, even though she is excited about reading about "The real Peter Rabbit and HIS friends."

Momma to my 4 sweeties:
DD 14 - MTMM and DITHOR (completed LHFHG, Beyond, Bigger, Preparing, CTC, took a couple years off, and now she's back!)
DS 11 and DD 9 - Preparing(completed 2 rounds of LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond, and Bigger)
DD 6 - LHFHG

Jessi, that's great!

It sounds like you're having fun and you've found a good fit for your little gal. (I loved the pictures of the Burgess characters that you posted, too!

) I'm eager to get to LHFHG with my dd, too. Thanks for letting us know that it's going well.

Jessi,
I'm SO happy to hear that your little sweetie is enjoying LHFHG at half-speed and that it is the fit you were seeking. We found it to be a great fit for our little guy last year too when he was just turning 5. Each little child is so different, but it's wonderful to be able to tweak the speed of the HOD guide to get the exact fit you need!
We're doing the rest of LHFHG full-speed this year, because my little guy was ready for it now. It's going TOO quickly though, as my kiddos are growing up way too fast. Enjoy your little sweetie!
Thanks for sharing. I love updates!
Blessings,
Carrie
