Hi everyone. I am planning to switch to HOD in the fall. We are currently using MFW Adventures. My question is where I should place my 2 ds ages 9 and almost 8. I was leaning towards preparing because we have already done a lot of American History and are ready for a change. I am concerned that Preparing may be too difficult for my almost 8 ds. Both my sons love dinosaurs, constellations, ice age,...topics, so I thought they would really enjoy Preparing, but I don't want my almost 8 ds to be struggling thru it. Thanks for the help. BTW, I also have 2 younger boys 5 and 9 months! Busy house full of boys!!

I've only got a couple of minutes here, but if you haven't had a chance to check out the placement chart, I'll link it here (as it's a wonderful place to begin when figuring out the best placement for your kiddos):

I'd love to hear more about what you're thinking once you've looked over the chart, paying the most attention to the areas on the first part of the chart.
I'm sure more moms will be along with their advice too.
Blessings,
Carrie

I thought I already posted this, but maybe I made a mistake.

I have 4 boys ages 9, almost 8, 5, and 9 months. I have been using MFW Adventures, but planning to switch to HOD in the fall. I was wondering if Preparing would be too difficult for my older ds. We have been studying American History for awhile, so I thought Preparing would be a nice change. Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

Hi Missy! I just wanted to welcome you to HOD! (I'm just switched from MFW Adventures last week and I'm so happy I did!) I don't have enough expertise to help you with your question, but I can say that the switch has been excellent in every arena and I think you will be more than pleasantly surprised at all this program has to offer. Have you checked out the placement chart on the site? I know it's more helpful to talk to a real person, but there is a chart of skills that can help identify which program your child would do best with. I know you will get the answers you need. God bless!

You're right, you did post this previously further down the board, so I'll just merge the two threads together here (so the moms won't get confused when replying to you)!

We're glad you're here, and I'm looking forward to hearing more what you're thinking once you've checked out the placement chart.
Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks for the input. Yes, I have already looked at the placement charts. I think they both will fit into Preparing by the fall. I guess it was a silly question. I just wondered if others felt that their 8 yo had a hard time with it.

I can't wait till the fall. I would switch now, but I always make myself use the curriculum I have already bought!
Thanks Ladies.

Missy,
This thread running on the board right now may be of help to you too! Here's the link:

I'd also suggest assessing again as you get closer to fall, as kiddos grow and change SO much in 6 months!
Blessings,
Carrie
