I am trying to decide which book pack to go with - Level 2 or 3 for my 9 yo dd. Do I want her to be "challenged" or do I want her to be comfortable with her reader? She is finishing up another reading program and is reading books like Third Grade Detectives, Tippy Lemmey, Tornado, Viking Adventure. If you are familiar with these books, which book pack should I go with next? We will be starting DITHOR in February.
Blessings!

Shelley,
With the book titles you listed, I would have your daughter go right into the Level 2 Book Pack. Overall, this will be a more gentle, incremental step up to the next reading level. Also, when first getting started in DITHR, it's important for the reading material to be at a comfortable level, so kiddos have an easier time of talking about what they've read. The books you listed would fit well at the end of our Emerging Reader's Set, so going into Level 2 next will make sense.
Happy reading!
Carrie

Thank you Carrie. I promised dd that we would sit down together once I figured out which level to put her in and let her help me choose the books. She is excited about having a say in the process.
We are looking forward to getting started!!

Re: Not sure whether to go w/Level 2 or 3 readers
I always start out with the lowest level I think will work, and work into the higher level. So I would start with the two, and if that's not challenging enough go into the three level. I think that when they aren't working so hard at reading the story, they can enjoy it. Which leads to enjoying reading, which leads to reading higher level books, and there you go!

Thank you Darci. I do want her to enjoy reading. I really struggle in this department b/c it is so hard sometimes to choose good readers and determine if the level is appropriate. I am so grateful to Carrie for creating a reading list and grouping it by level. Honestly, the thought of doing this myself is so overwhelming that I would probably not have given DITHOR a chance. Now I don't have that problem!!

Shelley,
You've not alone! Choosing books is overwhelming to everybody! I can spend forever trying to choose books too. I agonize over every choice, so I'm with you on that one. It is a balancing act to find appropriate content that is still interesting and is at the right reading level!
Blessings,
Carrie
