Picking books for drawn into reading

Post by Proverbs4:23 » Fri Oct 24, 2008 2:41 pm

Hello all,

I'm hoping to start Beyond with ds in January or February, but am not sure exactly what reading to do with him. He's finished with phonics and Abeka readers grades K and 1. . .and we've been getting the level 4 I can read books at the library to tide us over. But my question is, is it wise to do Drawn in with a 6 year old? I looked at the emerging readers, and it seemed that the first half of them would be way too easy. . .should I just do the 2nd half of the emerging readers? Should I go with the 2/3 book pack. . .or should I try and just hold tight for a year and figure something else out. . .(sigh) :? ANY ideas would be appreciated. :D

Brynn,

I would definitely do the last 1/2 of the Emerging Reader Set before moving on into DITHR. :D I'd encourage you to take the last half of the Emerging Reader Set at the bite-sized pace scheduled in the Appendix of Beyond (even if it's a little on the easy side), in order to give your little sweetie time to grow into the upped level of reading, processing, and writing required in DITHR. In her free-time, let your little daughter consume as many books as she wants! But for school-time, I'd recommend keeping the pace in the guide. What a wonderful "problem" to have! 8)

Blessings,
Carrie
