We start Beyond tomorrow!

Post by jensmom » Thu Aug 07, 2008 8:20 pm

I am so excited! We finished up the Kindergarten Singapore today and since our public schools start on Monday anyway...we are starting 1st grade with Beyond tomorrow morning! I am so excited to get into this curriculum!!!

BTW, I gave dd the kindergarten CAT test this week and I am very happy with her performance. While she did not get every single one correct, she got almost all of them correct. And I know which ones she missed so I can work on those things. Can I just say that allowing her to mark the wrong answer was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do???!!! Wow, I love being able to test her myself but it is so hard to let her mess up. After it was all finished I went over the ones she missed with her in a very positive manner and she was fine with it. It was overall a great experience. :)

Send me good HOD vibes tomorrow morning.

Judy - I'm praying God's blessings your way - and I hope you have a wonderful first day with Beyond...! As Carrie's said, we sometimes have a fabulous third or fourth day though - so if that happens - that'll still be great too!!! :D :D :D

It was great! I am so very happy with this curriculum! :D It went so very smoothly and Jen loved it. She asked for more of almost every subject. :D I love that - keep 'em wanting more! I know, of course, that since we actually started "doing school" a couple of weeks ago that the transition was smoother than it could have been. Plus, we had been doing longer lessons in Math and sight words so the HOD format was very welcome to both Jen and me.

We finished in 2 1/2 hrs and that was including some added items - Writing with Ease, Language Lessons and a Bible Lesson on CD. We finished with Sustained Silent Reading. Also, I used the "read a book" portion of Reading Made Easy to implement the Teaching Character Through Literature series. I read one of the books on their list and we talked about the character lesson in the book. Talk about getting more bang for your buck! :P

Looking forward to day 2 and the rest of the year...

I'm SO glad you had a great first day! It is wonderful to see those little faces eager to learn! I tuck that away in my memory for the days when we are just doing the best we can (because those come too, don't they!)

Thanks for sharing!

We are working along in Beyond this year, finishing up where we left off for the summer. Enjoy your time in this great program! It's bought many blessings to us, and I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
Moving along at our own pace, and very happy with it!

Thank you! So far, so great! We have finished two days and it is going quite well. I am LOVING our schedule. Public school started back today and we are just reveling in our freedom. We went to the laser show at Stone Mountain last night. It was the night before the first day of school and the laser show doesn't even start until 9:30pm! I had waited for this because it is always packed during the summer. We had a great time and slept in a bit this morning but were still finished with schoolwork by 12:30pm. :D We joined a running club this afternoon for home schooled children 4-14 and it sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Life is just peachy here is GA.

BTW, dd finally started to "get it" today. When we finished up she said, "Mom, all my friends are still in school and I am finished!" I knew she would get it eventually. :)

It takes awhile for them to "get it" doesn't it? Actually, it took me awhile to get it too! I finally began to realize that I can shop for groceries when no one else is, since we are on our own schedule. We also can vacation whenever we want (not during busy seasons), and if my dh wants to load up and take the boys fishing on a Friday - anchors away! :D I'm so happy for you and your dd - what a wonderful beginning to Beyond...! :D

In Christ,
Julie :)

Judy,

I'm so glad that you had a good first couple of days! It's exciting to see those little ones take hold and to see how much they've grown from the year before! :D

It sounds like you are embracing your homeschooling lifestyle too! That is such a blessed freedom! :D
