History pockets??

Anyone ever use these with Beyond or Bigger?? I have an Amazon gift cert. I'm wanting to use and I'm trying to think of things to go with Beyond for next year. Any ideas??

My boys did like some of the History Pockets, although they weren't as crafty of projects as we'd hoped for. If Amazon has the "Your Story Hour" CD's they are excellent and several of the volumes go wonderfully well with "Beyond...". I want to say volume 6 or 7 but can't remember off the top of my head.

What about Am Pak's Time Travelers the have that at Amazon. Plenty of activities on there. I have never used History Pockets but that just came to mind and the time period fits.

Thanks guys! I looked and unfortuately those are only offered from other sellers on amazon...not amazon directly.

Carrie, I'm not very crafty, so they may be OK for us.

I may get some of the story hour cd's anyway...my kids like listening to stories read by someone else occasionally.

I found a little book on Am. History crafts by Donald Silver (One Small Square guy) that looks pretty good, too.

The time travelers does look good, but maybe a little more advanced...might be good with Bigger?

last year i did a fun project for my dd. it was a paper model of fanuil hall complete with grasshopper on top. I got mine on ebay but i know you can get one from papermodelstore.com. i t was a bit to complicated for her to do anything more than hold the glue, but she had fun playing with it till it fell apart last year.

These are crafty books that we have from various other programs that my kids LOVED. They begged to do projects out of these books everyday when we were using them. My kids really thrive with hands on stuff. I plan to incorporate them into our Bigger and Beyond probably once a week. Something to keep their hands busy while I read aloud.

More than Moccasins by Laurie Carlson
A Pioneer Sampler by Barbara Greenwood
Little Hands Celebrate America by Jill Hauser
A Kaleidoscope Kids Book : The Lewis and Clark Expedition by Carol Johmann

Our Favorites are the Scholastic books these books have wonderful models to make of Indian villages and Indian life, Log cabin, seaport dioarama, a rolling coach, Dutch windmill and a lot more. We also liked More than Moccasins and the Pioneer Sampler.

I have read one complaint about he Pioneer Sampler that someone thought the kids were disrespectful. I haven't read the book so I can't answer that questions but I did use the book to make a homemade fiddle which was nothing more than a can, string, nail and a pencil.

Oops forgot the whole reason for the thread was History Pockets!

We used the Life in Plymouth Colony one and the kids enjoyed it. I have to say that the one thing they remembered was the Tithing mans stick. We took a dowel rod and put a fake squirrel tail on it to tickle the nose of the sleepy parishioners.

And last but not least I bought New World Explorers from Home-school in the Woods that had lots of fun hands on activities for that time period. I will say that I did not like all the printing and we never did finish with it. Maybe we will pick up later.

Sorry, this was so much info...but we REALLY like crafts!!!!

Thanks so much...that was just the sort of info I was looking for! I'm going to check these out. I'm not very crafty, but trying to work on that.
