Using Foerster's Algebra with MTMM

Post by onlybygrace » Tue Aug 01, 2017 1:56 pm

My dd finished Principles of Mathematics 1 and 2 with RevtoRev. So I ordered Foerster's Algebra with MTMM. But now I realize that I don't know how I should pace it! I have always relied on the scheduling in the appendix of the guides. I don't have the World Geography guide yet, so I am hoping for some help, please :)

You can find an assignment sheet at this link: https://mathwithoutborders.com/wp-conte ... s-Alg1.pdf

Also, here is Carrie's note on pacing, from the introduction to the World Geography guide:

~~~~
General pacing suggestions for Foerster’s Algebra I include doing a section each day (odd
numbered problems only) and spending 2-3 days completing all of the problems in the
story problem style exercises at the end of each chapter. If you spend 2 days on the story
problem style exercises at the end of the chapter, then you can take one day to complete
the “Chapter Review and Test.” However, if you spend 3 days on the story problem
exercises at the end of the chapter, then you will instead need to do the “Chapter Review
and Test” on your free 5th day in order to complete the text by the end of the school year.
Thanks so much! The quote from the guide was exactly what I needed :)
You're welcome! :)
Just a note that the tests are LONG! When I made my son do all of the questions on the tests, it was taking a couple of hours. Once I cut back on the number of problems (as per Carrie's advice), my son was able to complete the tests in a reasonable time (an hour or less).
Thanks for the advice! We will definitely have to shorten the tests, a few hours would be overwhelming for her.
It's also good to note that with our son we eventually had to go to doing selected story problems as the chapters grew more difficult and the story problems grew more involved. So, be sure to give yourself permission to do only selected story problems as time allows. :D
Blessings,
Carrie
Thank you! I will definitely keep that in mind. Math is a good subject for her, and I want to keep it that way!
