As some of you may know we were trying to implement SWR and I was having trouble finding time to do it. I checked out The Reading Lesson from the library and was using it with my children. When we came to the OO sound as in moon it had the children learning words like took and book that use the oo sound not the OO sound, but it did not make that distinction. Can anyone tell me if Reading Made Easy takes the same approach or is it more complete in teaching the sounds?
It is too inaccurate phonetically for me to want to continue on with The Reading Lesson.
Problem with The Reading Lesson
Dear Terri,
First, I am using the Reading Lesson with two of my children and they are doing very well...
I am using Reading Made Easy with a third (older) son and he also is doing well with it...
That said, I do not think you will be happy with Reading Made Easy. In my opinion, it is not "true phonics" and I have had to reinforce my son with some other teaching methods-we have settled with supplementing with Phonics Pathways. This is do to HIS needing this as sometimes he has trouble differentiating sounds... and he did not blend as easily as my other children.
I actually prefer the Reading Lesson to Reading Made Easy- but I don't think it goes AS FAR in teaching sounds/words...
Based on your desire for a "true phonetic" approach- I don't think you will be happy-
You might consider Alpha Phonics of Phonics Pathways for something less intensive... but still phonics...
Hopefully this helps-
Like I wrote- we are really enjoying the Reading Lesson here- especially with the CD-ROM-
but I too can be bothered by things that are not true phonics...
I hope this helps,
Sincerely
Rebecca

If you go to this site you can look at sample lessons from RME.

We are using it and we like it.....but we are also not very far into it yet so I'm not sure how much of a review that is.

It sounds like you want something that is purely phonics. I would consider Alpha Phonics. That might be more in line with what you want.

All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. Isaiah 54:13

We are using progressive phonics and so far are very happy with it. They have a few lessons of free samples on their web site. I too had a problem using The Reading Lesson, but this seems to be doing the trick with us so far.
