"Boyhood and Beyond" Advise

Hi Ladies....I have a son that just turned 10. We are actually doing Bigger this fall and possible starting Preparing in the Spring, so age-wise we are behind in curriculums for the suggested age ranges. I am wondering when I should begin the "Boyhood and Beyond" book with my son? I know I have to go through it in a younger guide than the one that it is specified for. I would love some advise about this! My best friend just told me that her son started puberty at 11 and it just happened overnight...yowsers! I wasn't even thinking about that yet, but I know God had her tell me for a reason. We may be on that same path too, I don't know. I just want to have him prepared and be a good mommy with foresight. Thank you for any help with this!!

As far as I know, 11 is young for a boy to start puberty and is uncommon so I don't think you have to worry quite yet. Boyhood and Beyond isn't about puberty at all, but about becoming a Godly man, so you don't have to start that one sooner at all. It is an absolutely wonderful book and I loved reading it with my son. It's the other two small books that would address it, What is God's Design for my Body? and From Boy...to Man. If you feel the need to so your son is prepared, then go ahead and go through those other two with your son.

I saved From Boy to Man and What is God's Design.. for my husband to read with my son privately. They got a few minutes into From Boy to Man and my son was so embarrassed he started crying and begged his dad to stop. So, here he is 12 years old and has still never had "the talk"

Christine is correct, it is the 2 little books that address puberty, not Boyhood and Beyond. I would save that one until you get to that guide. My son did that guide at 12 and that was plenty early. He even went into puberty fairly early (at 15 he had a beard and often got mistaken for an 18 year old) and yet 12 was early enough. I also had his dad do those books with him and he finished them, but he sure didn't want to discuss them with me afterwards .

Oh that's such a relief! I thought that 11 seemed young, as most of the boys I remember not changing until 13-14 going into freshman year. Thank you! That's very helpful about knowing the content of the books as well.
