Singapore 3 textbooks required??

Post by momof3kids » Thu Jul 23, 2015 12:17 pm

Hi all,
Looking about ordering for my 8 yo who will be doing Preparing this coming fall. He has 2 weeks left to finish bigger and Singapore level 2 math. We previously have not used the textbooks, since they were not mentioned/required in Bigger.....are they needed for level 3, with preparing?.....or, can we just order the workbooks?.
Thanks in advance!

Starting in level 3, you will need the text book. Starting in level 5, you will want to start ordering the Home Instructors Guide from HOD as well. The guides no longer include the hands on teach activities after 2.

Yes, there are a lot of problems in the Textbook for the child to do, or for you to do with the child. The Textbooks explain some things. The hands-on activities in the guides up through Bigger are supposed to be your "teaching" or extra practice on the concepts. I admit we don't always do the activities, especially for my kids who pick it up well. But my oldest is doing 4A and she wouldn't have gotten as much good practice without the textbooks. So I think you want to use them. Some of the HOD-ers use the textbooks like workbooks and let the children write in them. They aren't expensive. My husband thinks it is good for her to have to write the problems and answers on paper, and keep it organized.
