I am going to be doing LHFHG with my K and 2nd grade girls. My 2nd grader is reading and last year we did CLE Language arts and she just hated those workbooks, she was always complaining about the many pages that she had to do. Do you think that Language Lessons for the Very Young is enough for her? It looks like she would like it. Would you add anything to Language Lessons for the Very Young? We are going to be doing the emerging readers as well. Is Rod and Staff English a lot of workbook pages each day? I can't decide! Would love any suggestions that you have.
Thanks, Stacy

I wouldn't add anything to it. The lessons are simple, and short, but meaty! I'm constantly surprised (I shouldn't be by now, but I'm a slow learner I guess
) at how much the boys are actually retaining from the shorter lessons.
We do CLE, too for one of my boys.
I only make him do the odd problems or even lessons, etc to make the lessons somewhat more tolerable for him. There is a lot of content in the CLE lessons. (one reason we are having so much fun with the Charlotte Mason short lesson focus of HOD-it seems so easy!
)

We do CLE, too for one of my boys.

africamom,
Since your second grader is beyond the target age-range for Little Hearts, you'd want to add the right side of the plans from "Beyond..." (or use your own choices to beef up the language arts and math).
If you use the right side of the plans from "Beyond..." you would have your spelling and gentle grammar lessons covered for your older daughter. You would also have the Emerging Readers' schedule in the Appendix to follow. If you're using Singapore for math, you'd have the schedule for 1A/1B in the guide with hands-on activities and the schedule for 2A/2B in the Appendix.
You may need to add to the science readings in LHFHG for your older daughter as well.
You can certainly use Language Lessons for the very young or CLE if you desire. HOD is easy to customize to your personal preferences. But, you may wish to take a look at using the Beyond... right side for your older daughter instead, to make your language arts and math easier in the long run.
Then, next year, you would just use the right side of the plans in "Bigger..." for language arts and math (for your older daughter) and teach the left side of Beyond and the Beyond storytime to both girls.
Blessings,
Carrie
