Quizlet for dictation

Post by Motherjoy » Tue Apr 14, 2015 7:34 pm

Has anyone done this? I am considering it, but I'm not sure it would work out. I'm trying to streamline teacher-intensive time as much as possible.

I haven't used quizlet much, but I'm not sure how it would work. Seems you need the human factor to read and pace the dictation correctly. Also wouldn't you have to type in all the dictation passages? That seems like it would take a lot more time than just the 5 minutes of teacher time that dictation takes.

I tried it out, and we couldn't get it to work as well as we thought. It more hassle than worth, I think.

I just really need to steal some minutes with all these kiddos and little ones.

I do agree - it is really hard getting to kids. I know you have way more kids than me but I also work from home up to 40 hours some weeks. I have seen that Carrie and Julie have mentioned that they have employeed their older boys to help the youngers with some of this stuff. I don't know if that is an option for you. Or if your husband can help with some of it when he gets home from work.

I will say - I have found that doing each item listed by HOD and doing it exactly as is has definitely saved my day. Before finding HOD, I found I was having a hard time getting to things. Again, I do know I only have 3. But two of my three have special learning needs. And those extra items can be a complete time suck. So now I pretty much only do what HOD has and it is great!

I had four in dictation for awhile, and will again... maybe even five...

We eat our bigger meal at noon (since that is when my DH can come and eat with us as a family). I have found that dictation is a great thing to do during the thirty minutes before we eat lunch while I'm prepping food. Those upper level dictation passages can't be whipped through in just a couple minutes the way the earlier ones can.
