Follow Up for No-Nonsense Algebra

Post by 1finefamily » Tue Jul 29, 2014 5:34 pm

My daughter completed 8th grade and No-Nonsense Algebra in June. She had pre-algebra in 7th grade public school. She really enjoyed No-Nonsense - was very clear - and she rarely needed my help. But now I'm struggling with what to do next. I have read on the boards that heading into Foerster's Algebra 2 would be too big a leap and that it's too late to do video-text as pre-algebra and algebra 1-2 are integrated. This kiddo doesn't have trouble with math, but she's much more interested in the arts. I do want her to be prepared for PSAT & SAT though. Suggestions?

Also, may I count No-Nonsense Algebra for highschool credit?

Thanks!

1finefamily,

Yes, you can count No-Nonsense Algebra as your child's credit for Algebra 1. However, it is good to keep in mind that not all math credits are equal in terms of rigor and level of difficulty. If your child is headed for a non-math related major, then she is fine with the No-Nonsense math credit for Algebra 1. :D

At this point, if you desire a more rigorous approach to Algebra, you could have her go into Foerster's Algebra I this coming year. If, on the other hand, you wish to have a less rigorous approach, you could just end her Algebra I experience with No-Nonsense Algebra. If you choose that route, then you may wish to look at Geometry for her next step. She could either do Geometry: A Guided Inquiry or do YourTeacher.com for geometry. Either would work next. :D

After that she would return to do Algebra II. If she has not done Foerster's Algebra I, then you would need to move into something else for Algebra II. Most likely, you would consider YourTeacher.com for Algebra II (as it is less rigorous than Foerster's Algebra II and works well coming off of No-Nonsense Algebra I). :D

Blessings,
Carrie
