beefing up science in MTMM for high school credit

Post by little1stwo » Sun Jul 20, 2014 4:37 am

I have a 10th grader and we are using MTMM this year. Can you please tell me what you have used for chemistry to make it high school credit worthy? Have you used the science from MTMM and added to it or used a whole different chemistry curriculum altogether? My son is strong in science. His brother will do the MTMM as an 8th grader using the guide as written. It would be nice for them to work together if it works out, but they don't have to. I just want a strong science curriculum without it being overwhelming.

Thank you!
Lynn

the above link talks all about beef up the different levels for high school credit. Within the link you will find resources for beefing up MTMM for science. As a side note though, many have added in the Chemistry 101 DVDs to make it more high school worthy. But the above link will have some great information. I would just click on the different links for MTMM and you will find lots of replies about your question through out.

Thank you for the link! I read everything over there last year and it does have some great information. I was wondering though - some of the info is old and was wondering what others have done in the past few years? Also, I can't find the link directly for the science in MTMM and don't have time to search for it right now. Anyone know off-hand what Carrie said to add or can lead me to that direct link?

Thank you so much!

Above is a link for when Carrie originally rolled out the MTMM science sneak peak. If you scroll down toward the bottom of the discussion in the link, Carrie specifically talks about adding the 101 Chemistry DVDs on the 5th day. And she also mentions that there are additional experiments included on that DVD if you choose to do them as well. It would be a very strong high school credit course. In addition, the resource Evolution, the Grand Design is a high school text. And all of the John Hudson Tiner books are high school level texts as well.

I do know that in past threads that I have recently read, this is still the recommendation that people make and do. I know there are other ladies on the board who have used MTMM for high school and hopefully they will hop on and tell what they did. And hopefully that link helps too. The reply from Carrie within that link has additional links as well. And I think it gives even more discussion.

You are so very welcome

And while I have only used HOD for a year now, before I chose them as my curriculum (I was mainly eclectic before), I think I read their whole website including significant volumes of forum posting for each level LOL.
