Bigger-3rd grade-do English 3?
Bigger-3rd grade-do English 3?
My guy just turned 10, has done LHFHG and has a few unit left in Beyond, more than halfway through ER, doing the spelling lists. We are starting Bigger in June. He will be a 3rd grader. Should I go ahead and start him on English 3 instead of English 2 so that he won't be behind and can do 1/2 of 5 in CtC as scheduled?

If he hasn't done any other kind of grammar than what is in Beyond, then he probably needs to start in R&S 2 for his and your sanity. Each one is more difficult and assumes knowledge from the one before. I am confused that you say you would miss part of 5 if you do this, we are following what is in the guides and my DD is doing 3 in Preparing, I guess you do 4 in CTC-Res2Ref and then do 5 in Rev2Rev-MTMM? I admit I have not looked that far ahead yet.
Okay maybe I see, you are missing a year because he is on the older end of the age range? I guess you would have to look at what is taught and make sure he is able to skip R&S 2, that his grasp of that basic grammar stuff is pretty solid. There's a great unit on alphabetizing too that I am thinking of doing with my DD when she starts Bigger to help her with looking up the vocabulary words. That is toward the end of R&S 2.

Rev2Rev is EITHER full speed for R&S 5 OR half-speed R&S 6. So, your child will have this plan:
Bigger - R&S 2
Preparing - R&S 3
CtC - R&S 4a
RtR - R&S 4b
Rev2Rev - R&S 5
MtMM - R&S 6
Other kids do the following:
Bigger - R&S 3
Preparing - R&S 4
CtC - R&S 5a
RtR - R&S 5b
Rev2Rev - R&S 6a
MtMM - R&S 6b
I figured this out by ready what is above the grammar packages for each of the later guides.
