Completing High School

When we first started homeschooling 4 years ago I started both my girls ages 9 and 11 in Preparing. I did use the math, English, and dictation extensions for my 11 year old. I did not want to skip any of the guides because they are so good and they build on each other. Now almost four years later we are finishing Revival. My youngest daughter is right on track, but this is the end of my oldest daughter's Freshman year. I know we don't want to skip any of the guides, but if we stay on this track when my oldest daughter graduates she won't have had the opportunity to go through the last two guides (which I know aren't written yet). I am monitoring her high school credits, but my concern is that in several subjects she won't have the opportunity to "catch up" in. For example, she won't have the higher level literature, writing, history, or religion subjects. She would end high school with The New World History Guide (currently being written). I want her to be ready for college, but I'm concerned that she won't be without these higher level classes. I don't feel that holding her back is really an option. We started her in public school a year late already because she has a summer birthday. I would love to hear any advice on what I should do. Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

If you were to place your oldest right now with the placement chart, would you still place her with the younger sibling? If not and she places higher now, then I would probably separate and put older in the higher guide.

Thanks for posting that link. I will find a quiet moment to read it.

When I look at the placement chart I could probably skip a guide. I just hesitate doing that because I know that the skills build on each other. I want to make sure I'm giving her what she needs for college, but I don't want to frustrate her either.

Maybe you could only do the right side of the next guide and that would keep her on track?

The idea would be that as soon as your oldest enters High School you would have to beef up certain subjects or add some things in to give her high school credits for the work. I think the link that was posted earlier is a link that will help you with this. So for example, they suggest a different Bible study resource to use if you are using Rev to Rev or MTMM for high school credit. They say add something to your history for a history credit, etc. Lots of people have done that, so they know much better than I could say what is good to add in for those credits. That's where you would have to add in some work in order to keep them in the same guide (which I suppose as you move up in the guides, having them together is not as beneficial as it is in lower guides). Really if your daughter is challenged in what she is doing and you want to keep going straight through them, you can still get her enough HS credits for graduation, and a very good preparation for whatever she might want to do after High school.
