Hello!
I am getting ready to purchase RTR for my son next year going into his "6th" grade. He has done HOD since Beyond. Every year I get the extension books for him and he really enjoys them! As he is getting older I wasn't sure if it will be too much of a workload. He just reads them and we just talk about what is going on in it and if he likes it, nothing else. I planned on still buying them every year just to enrich his studies, but I wasn't sure if the content would be too much. He is NOT sensitive and has had no problem reading or understanding the others. So I guess my question is what do you think? I really like all the extension books coming up or do you think I should stop including them?
Thank you!
Sally

Re: RTR extensions
I think it is really up to you. You know your child best. I know that HOD mentions that some of the books contain some more mature topics. Have you read any of them yourself in advance? I think that would probably help you make a better judgment and then you can be selective as to which ones you let him read next year.

Re: RTR extensions
We are doing RTR now with our 11 yo, and the reading is an increase in amount and in difficulty from CTC. He has always been a strong reader, but personally I would not want him to be reading/discussing the extensions along with his usual RTR day. I think it would detract from the rest of the guide, as well as be quite mature for a sixth grader. (My ds is not sensitive either, but just the added books, discussions, and maturity may be too much.) You may want to start without them, and then add them later if wanted. Or, you may want to get them and have ds read them a year later or for free time as he matures. However, you will know best what you would like to do here. Daneale is right, it is up to you, and you are right, they are awesome books! They might just be better read later. HTH!

Re: RTR extensions
Thank you so much for responding! I always know I can get great answers to help me work through things from this board! Maybe I will save them for next summer to read and to keep it all fresh;) Thanks again!
