New LHFHG

Is the time for getting a discount on a replacement guide for LHFHG over? She has the new math activities in there, correct?
The sample week still has the old math in there.

I think they said they are giving it a year or so? So people can get done using it and then trade it in? I already got my new one, and what happened was I ordered a new one, and put in the notes that I wanted to return my old one for 50% off so then one of the items on my invoice was the "return mailer" (I think I emailed Mike first too to make sure he knew). I got a postage paid mailer with my order and then once they received my old guide they credited me 1/2 of the cost of the new guide. What a deal!

I didn't know anything about this until now. I do want to use that program again. How different is the manual? Is it something small that I can work around?
Thanks,
Laura

The big difference is the math. They had to change books, so the activities had ot be redone ot match the new book. I The fine motor skills have also changed over time due to books going out of print, but I think they have used Rod and Staff for a few years. But, that pox is just page numbers, so it isn't a huge deal to set your own pacing. I don't think the left side of the guide has changed at all, and I don't think the Storytime box has changed any over the years either.

Yes they had to re-do the hands-on math activities for new workbooks as the old ones went out of print. They knew that was coming, I knew that was coming, because HOD was the only place you could even buy those books. In order to use that part of it, you would need a whole new guide (in the transition time, people have just been doing the new workbooks and pacing it themselves, so you can always do that). I appreciate HOD's desire to serve families who are re-using their guide, but the criteria for the deal is 1) you must have originally bought your LHFHG guide from HOD 2) you have to send your old guide back to them. Really I think that is a wonderful thing for them to offer. But the guide itself isn't so expensive and I know many people who have written in their guides with previous children didn't want to give them up. Really most other curricula when there is a new edition make it really difficult to use the old one and there is no discount for faithful customers.

Found this comment from Carrie about the new LHFHG guide:
In response to the time frame for the half-off offer, we are thinking 2 years is a good time frame. That will give families ample time to take advantage of this offer and not have to rush to make a decision. Feel free to contact us by telephone or by email to take advantage of the offer. We'll look up your LHFHG guide purchase in our system and send you a postage paid mailer to return your previous guide. :D

This is right, and you can certainly take advantage of sending in your old LHFHG guide for a new one at half off (provided you bought it from them). :D As far as the math, it is quite different. We went through the old Earlybird Math books and compared them to the new Math Essentials and found that there were some discrepancies in skills covered. Carrie then wrote hands-on math activities to include those missing skills, and they are in the new LHFHG guide. The fine motor skills for 1st grade are also different. The Storytime Set no longer has Uncle Wiggily but instead has Jerry Muskrat. HTH!
