I would like to switch my dd14 from Tapestry of Grace Year 4 (we ended at 1950) to either MTMM or the World Geography for high schoolers. We have never made it to the modern era in our studies, but I know she is capable of the high school work. I will still have a dd10 finishing the year using TOG, so that pulls me in the direction of staying with the history cycle. Looking at the literature suggestions for MTMM I know she is capable of more advanced work.
How would you suggest I proceed?

I too have a 9th grader coming in mid-year in January. What credits will your 9th grader have from the 1st half of the year? I have found that high school is such a different beast outside of history cycles and such b/c of credits needed to graduate, credits needed for college-prep, credits needed for whatever track your child wants to take for college. Mine needs the medical science track b/c she wants to go into veterinary science.
With the literature suggestions, do you mean within the history/economy package or in the language arts/dithor? We are going to try something different for language arts/literature kind of basing off the WG setup rather than the MTMM language arts/literature setup since I am using MTMM for 9th and my dd has a lot of 1/2 credits from 1st semester in a different science, foreign language, and English setup more similar to WG's setup. I am actually going with MTMM b/c I thought it would be easier to finish off the other 1/2 credits for the year with it history wise and all.
Does your dd have any high school credits from the 1st of the year?

Re: Where to place a 9th grader mid-year
Thank you for your responses. She takes science at a private school, and also photgraphy, so we will probably need to forgo the logic component for her to continue those. She will also continue her online French program. If she finishes the year doing TOG, she will have a half credit American History and a half credit World History. Because of the degree she would like to attain (equivalent to an honors degree), She would need 1 credit world history or geography/cultures and 1 credit american. The modern era is a little blurry because America has been such a world player and involved in so many wars and peace processes. So depending how the year finishes, I could issue a full credit for one or the other. It's a hard for me to tell from the table of contents how much American history makes it into MTMM.
I think looking at HODs DITHOR it would be too simple for her, but we could continue with our current literature and I'll just have to figure out how to parcel it out. I think if I follow HODs suggestions as to how often to do literature/grammar/writing for the whole English 9 credit it will work out. She's used to 9-10 hour school days, so I'd like to see her retain some of what she's reading for all that effort, which will require the hands-on and daily incremental studies HOD offers.
Any additional input is welcome and appreciated.

Welcome to the HOD Board! When you look at the placement chart, does she place more squarely in MTMM or WG? Thanks!

Heidi,
I feel in need of more information about where your daughter is at too. When looking at the two charts linked below, does she fit better in MTMM or the World Geography Guide (mainly according to the first page or first column of the charts only)? Placement in HOD is really based on skills, and so if you can remove the history cycle from your consideration right now and instead focus on skills for guidance in placement you will get a better feel for where your student would fit best.
