Language Arts-Rod and Staff vs. Language Lessons????

Post by MommyInTraining » Mon Jun 02, 2008 8:11 am

I am a little confused by the two options available. I see that Rod and Staff is listed for the guides, but Language Lessons is an option for DITHOR. I think I would prefer Language Lessons, but are they not scheduled into the full curriculum guides?

Is Rod and Staff considered more thorough?

Which do you prefer and why?

Please help me with my confusion :)

Thanks!

We must be thinking alike, as I asked the same question (more or less) yesterday. You just did a much better job at being concise! :D My post is here:

I'll be watching your post, too, so hopefully someone will help us out and we'll both be a little clearer on what we need for grammar!

Hi gals! Rod and Staff is scheduled into the HOD guides; LL is given as another option for people to use along with DITHOR if they are using DITHOR without a full HOD program. Does that make sense?

The HOD guides cover everything in LL except art picture study (which we do with Smart about Art books, from Miller Pad and Paper), so it would be redundant to do LL with a full HOD program. The way the HOD guide does all of these things matches the themes in the HOD guide (i.e. copywork matches the history, the poetry matches the history, etc.), so there's a connection there that you wouldn't have by using LL.

I have been very impressed with R & S English as well. My ds really remembered the skills taught in it well, and it was a solid program. We did all of it orally except for one section of my choice each day that I had my ds write. I do think it is very thorough.

But - those are just my thoughts on it - you should do what you think is best! :o

Julie :)

Thanks so much for clarifying that, Julie! So now I know that all I need is Rod and Staff since we'll be using DITHOR along with a full HOD program. :D Sounds good!
