CLEP questions
CLEP questions
My 16 yo would like to prepare to CLEP some of his courses this year (American History I for starters ). What materials do any of you recommend for preparation? Are there any other CLEPs that are easier than others. And how do you keep CLEP prep from determining the direction of your studies...or should it?
With Joy!

Re: CLEP questions
The library is a great place to start. There are typically CLEP test practice books you can find there. I took a handful of tests right before college and I just did a few practice tests. I'd have him start a couple of tests and see how he does. If he is struggling, try a study guide. If it's easy for him, then he's probably ready. I don't know if there are any that are easier than others. CLEP tests would be beneficial for the basic coursework for college. I don't think it will really determine the direction of his studies. I'm hoping my girls (although they are still young) will be able to CLEP out of many courses in order to save time and money in college.

Re: CLEP questions
Florence,
Before taking any CLEP exams, you'll want to be sure to check the College Board website and type in the college your child is planning on attending to check whether the CLEP exam you are considering is accepted by that college. Each college is different in what CLEP exams it allows for credit toward a major. The College Board website has a search by your specific college that lists the allowed CLEP exams for that college.
Blessings,
Carrie
