Math Sequence
Math Sequence
Hi! I am a little confused about math. In a perfect world, if I had started HOD from the beginning, what would the math sequence look like? Thx!

Re: Math Sequence
I think the perfect world is where your child is at. Have your kids taken the Singapore placement test on the Singapore website. That is the place to begin. I have used MUS with my 3 and have used Singapore with my youngest. She is in primary 1B starting 2nd grade. Her sequence is 1B/2A-2nd, 2B/3A-3rd, 3B/4A-4th. That is assuming she doesn't have any difficulties. They say Singapore is advanced so the number of Singapore is 1 year less than their grade. That is assuming all things being regular, but with hs there are so many variables it truly is up to each family/kiddo. The placement will reveal where each child places. In a year they should go through A&B, but as you see my kiddo is off doing B then A.
The catalogue lists Essentials k A & B, Primary 1A/B, 2A/B ...6A/B, Discovery 7 A/B, then various choices. www.singaporemath.com.
My ds is in MUS Zeta in 6 th grade. The HOD has the Singapore math in the schedule and also allows other math programs to be scheduled in that box. Other math programs will take longer and may make day longer. I have used MUS for so long-13 years that this old dog thought she couldn't learn a new trick but then the kiddo needing special services made me reevaluate.

Re: Math Sequence
They start out with activities for math in the first few guides - Singapore 1 for LHFHG, Singapore 2 with Beyond, and I think Singapore 3 with Bigger. From there, they just have page numbers, etc for a range of Singapore books. They start the Algebra recommendations in the MtMM guide. MtMM would be 8th grade, so the sequence seems to follow what schools do (advanced kids take Algebra 1 in 8th grade, and most others do it as a freshman).

Re: Math Sequence
Great answers here already!
Basically, you'd do Singapore Essentials Math, Primary Math 1A through 6B, then depending on age and how dc did with 6B, either Discovering Math 7A/7B, Foerster's Algebra 1, No-Nonsense Algebra, or VideoText. Our ds did math through 7A and moved to Foerster's Algebra 1 with ease. HTH!

Re: Math Sequence
Thanks everyone. So, Singapore Essentials starts with which guide? I realize all kids are different & may follow their own pace, but I'd still like to know the target sequence in order to finish by 12th grade. Thx!

Re: Math Sequence
I was wrong - Essentials is LHFHG, 1 is Beyond, and 2 is Bigger. I guess because we are using LHFHG for 1st I forgot the hands on activities are in Beyond (we are using a different curriculum right now because I had bought it before finding HOD).
So, if you follow 1 a year:
Essentials - LHFHG
1a and 1b - Beyond
2a and 2b - Bigger
3a and 3b - Preparing
4a and 4b - CtC
5a and 5b - RtR
6a and 6b - Rev to Rev
7a and 7b or Algebra - MtMM
Algebra I or II - Geography (9th)
