Handwriting stress, ready for Bigger?

My son who will be turning 8 in a few weeks is finishing Beyond (as 1st grade) this week! He is a very smart, perfectionist kid and he's grown a lot this year. My dilemma is I don't feel like he's ready for the huge jump in handwriting that's expected in Bigger. He still gets easily stressed out with the amount in Beyond. By the time he's copied the spelling words, possible timeline and/or topic sentence, any math problems, and whatever the poetry copy work is, he is done. If he has more then 4 lines of poetry copy work he starts shutting down. He will cry and tell me he can't do it. I've seen the same behavior with math and even reading occasionally, but handwriting is the big issue. I just don't know what I should do. Should I start and go half pace? Find another curriculum to use this year and then use Bigger for 3rd grade?
