We are enjoying LHFHG!
This week was our first week using LHFHG and I am very happy with it. My dd who is 6 is coming around to it, too. She is my third child and has had a lot of freedom in her schooling up until now. My youngest is 3 and my older ones are 12 and almost 10. Because I was either focused on the baby or teaching the older two, Josie - my 6 year old, often just "schooled herself". She loves to draw and cut and paste and make little books. She was very happy just doing her own thing and I was happy to let her.
I was excited to get started with LHFHG with her because it looks so easy to use and I was certain that she would be thrilled to be "doing school" with Mom. Well, when we started this week, she drug her feet. She wasn't interested in "doing school" she wanted to just do her own thing.
Well, I persisted and just began. She fairly quickly was participating and the big change came when finally on the third day I included the Rhymes in Motion. She loved it! And, she is really enjoying the other aspects of the program as well.
I love the Key Ideas. They are very helpful. She has easily memorized the memory verse, which I am so happy about. I have wanted to incorporate Bible memorization into our learning, but just never have. This has made it very easy to do.
Another wonderful thing about LHFHG is that it is "pick up and go". We had a crazy day on Thursday, with an unexpected trip to the doctor's office in the morning. With any other program, school for Josie just would not have happened on Thursday. But, with LHFHG we were able to get almost everything done on Thursday, despite the craziness of the day.
I am really looking forward to what is to come with this! Thank you!

Barbara,
Do you mean your little honey isn't enjoying the Bible stories that you're reading aloud for history? I only ask because that is the main read-aloud for the first one-third to one-half of "Little Hearts...". There is a little bit of "History for Little Pilgrims" in the opening weeks (which I agree is more challenging listening), but the rest is all Bible stories.
I'd love to help your little sweetie enjoy the read-alouds. Are you getting a chance to read the Bible stories from one of the story Bibles that we have listed? If not, you may want to consider giving that a try. My boys absolutely loved the Bible stories and the beautiful pictures that went with them. They begged me to read more.
Hope that helps!
Blessings,
Carrie

Hyppiechyk - I am SO GLAD you are enjoying LHFHG - and even on the first week of school; that is certainly a good indicator of what is to come! We're about 2/3 of the way through LHFHG, and when I look back to when we first began, I think the history in LHFHG is a jump up in listening level because it's nonfiction. That took my ds a little bit to get used to since it is different than listening to a fictional story being read aloud.
It may just take some time to grow into if you haven't read much nonfiction aloud. I hadn't read a whole lot of nonfiction to my ds prior to LHFHG, but he really is eager to hear more now. The story Bible you read from for the first one-third of the year really balances the nonfiction out nicely, so I'm sure your dd will grow into it as my ds did. Anyway, here's a cyber high-five headed your way for a great first week of homeschool!!!

oh no...bible stories he loves, NOT devotionals though
the Little Pilgrims book he's not crazy about...but since the readings are short, we do them anyhow
he'll be fine...he likes everything else, so it's not bad...

Oh, I'm so glad he's enjoying the Bible stories. That is so important in "Little Hearts..", since it is the bulk of the reading aloud in the first chunk of the program. The devotional and "History for Little Pilgrims" do take a little more growing into.
Granolamom, I'm so glad your little ones are off to a good start too! Thanks for sharing!
Blessings,
Carrie

Does your son like to color? You can buy a coloring book that goes along with the little pilgrims history book.
Maybe he would like it better if he could color along while you read?
