Carrie-Not that you need the extra workload...

Post by inHistiming » Mon Oct 06, 2008 6:32 pm

I was just wondering...this may have been discussed here before, I'm not sure...what math are you thinking of using for the higher levels? I thought you knew Singapore would be used through level 6...do you have ideas for using something else past that? :)

inHistiming,

Updated to add: We are currently waiting on the Teaching Textbook recommendation, and are more than likely now looking at continuing through Singaore 6A/6B instead. :D

We are currently still deciding about that. Right now, my oldest son is using Teaching Textbooks 7, and he used Teaching Textbooks 6 last year instead of Singapore 6. We do like Teaching Textbooks and may go that route with our recommendation. It is somewhat cost prohibitive, but is very well done and covers the concepts well. Some have questioned the level of rigor in Teaching Textbooks, but that is easily fixed by placing your child in a higher level of the program (if that child passes the placement test for the higher level of math). :D

We are still weighing all options, but are leaning in the Teaching Textbooks direction. We'll have several more years of testing it under our belt (with my oldest son) before needing to make a clear-cut decision.

The good news is that the transition from Singapore to almost any other math program is not a tough one, due to Singapore's high level of mental math and problem-solving. So, if moms aren't fans of Teaching Textbooks, they could just as easily move their child into Saxon, Bob Jones, ABeka, or Jacobs after Singapore. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
