I wanted to post a "praise report" here. My 9 yo dd daughter completed reading the Early Reader's Bible!!! We are new to HOD. She started on the Emerging Readers List at the beginning of May, with the Early Reader's Bible. She read it to me each night before bed. She liked it so much, she would sometimes read more than one chapter. The Early Reader's Bible was perfect for her abilities! She also liked the pictures. She is very visual, so pictures are important to her. She is using Reading Made Easy for her phonics program. We are halfway through it and it has been very good for her.
She has always struggled with reading. I was unfamiliar with how to deal with this, because her older brother learned to read easily. She couldn't use the same phonics program he did, because it frustrated her. When she was 7, we had her tested for dyslexia at Scottish Rite Foundation, and found that she had all the traits of having dyslexia. So, reading for her has been an uphill battle, with the letters jumping around on the page, etc., and that still happens, but not as much as it used to. She has always had a strong desire to learn to read.
Because of her struggles, her finishing The Early Reader's Bible was such a sweet thing! It gave her such a sense of accomplishment to be able to read a "real book"!! And the time we shared reading together at bedtime was treasured by both of us. She has now moved on to The Beginner's Bible, and she is encountering and learning new words with it.
Thank you for letting me share it here!
