I wanted to post a "praise report" here. My 9 yo dd daughter completed reading the Early Reader's Bible!!! We are new to HOD. She started on the Emerging Readers List at the beginning of May, with the Early Reader's Bible. She read it to me each night before bed. She liked it so much, she would sometimes read more than one chapter. The Early Reader's Bible was perfect for her abilities! She also liked the pictures. She is very visual, so pictures are important to her. She is using Reading Made Easy for her phonics program. We are halfway through it and it has been very good for her.

She has always struggled with reading. I was unfamiliar with how to deal with this, because her older brother learned to read easily. She couldn't use the same phonics program he did, because it frustrated her. When she was 7, we had her tested for dyslexia at Scottish Rite Foundation, and found that she had all the traits of having dyslexia. So, reading for her has been an uphill battle, with the letters jumping around on the page, etc., and that still happens, but not as much as it used to. She has always had a strong desire to learn to read.

Because of her struggles, her finishing The Early Reader's Bible was such a sweet thing! It gave her such a sense of accomplishment to be able to read a "real book"!! And the time we shared reading together at bedtime was treasured by both of us. She has now moved on to The Beginner's Bible, and she is encountering and learning new words with it.

Thank you for letting me share it here!

Thanks for sharing this. I can't wait to post our 'week in review' once we begin LHFHG. I am working on The Reading Lesson with dd, who just turned 7. I am also having her read some easy books from the library along with that, and it is so neat listening to her read on her own. She has a way to go before she can do the emerging reader books, but she gets excited when she can read the easy books. I was concerned because of problems she has had with her eyes, but she seems to be coming along. This is encouraging :)

Donna Jo,

I'm praising the Lord with you today on your daughter's success with the Early Reader's Bible. :D I'm so proud of her for finishing and so glad that she enjoyed it.

What a precious picture of your sweet girl! :D It makes me wish I had some of that pink at my house, as pink is a missing color in our houseful of boys! :D Thanks for sharing and allowing us to celebrate this special time with you. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thank you, psreit, Carrie, and spidermansmum! How sweet to share this with all of you!

I'll post more as she moves along with Emerging Readers. She still has some trouble with remembering some words even though she's read them before. I hope this will improve with reading the words more and more.
