This week was really challenging for us . . . in part because this was suppose to be vacation week. That didn't happen, although I gave them Friday off.
In LHTH we didn't get very far - 2 days of unit 17. She mainly practiced R&S workbooks and her writing. She has been asking how to spell certain words. Actually spelling one on her own - pig!
in LHFHG we finished unit 27 and started unit 28. Monday- Wednesday he actually worked a bit ahead. One of his favorite things was making George Washington's hat & wig. Afterward he decorated it with sports stickers!
oh well. We learned about Samuel Slater (new for me), and A Hamilton and his 13 trees. One for each original colony.
In Preparing my oldest ended up only getting 2 days done of Unit 4. He had a hard time concentrating, he lost his math, he went to work with his dad, etc.
He was sad to see the end of the Great Ice Age book.
He did a great drawing of the Tower of Babel.
He loves the Draw and Write through History. I do have to adapt the writing a little for him at this point. I choose 1 or 2 sentences for cursive, then allow him to print.
We ended the week with a 'field trip'. We took our children to Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, (MO). They really enjoyed it!!
Hope that spurs them on to work extra hard next week.

This was an odd but still very good week. We did school M-W and a little bit on Saturday too. We finished up Unit 17 of LHTH, Unit 4 of Beyond, and Unit 29 in Bigger Hearts. I confess to not being as diligent in doing LHTH and finishing everything. It seems just as soon as I get my head around one routine or schedule it changes. In order to change it, I could wake my children up earlier in the morning (which would require me also to get up earlier). And in order to do that, we should start going to bed earlier in the evening. Anyway, I won't bore you with my personal musings any longer.
My 3rd DD learned about Solomon and the letter M. I am ordering her more workbooks to do, because she just can't get enough. I ordered another cutting and pasting workbook, a maze workbook, and one about letters because she is just taking off with learning letters and she can even write some of them so I want to give her more practice. We sit at the table and do seat work together (mostly, sometimes my oldest goes somewhere else so she can concentrate) so she needs some more seat work to do.
My 2nd born read about the Pilgrims travelling to Holland, we learned about the city of Amsterdam, the dike, it was really interesting and we had some fun activities. She really enjoyed building a dike out of dough. Eventually the house got flooded. We also finished up "Squanto Friend of the Pilgrims" for our biography. My DD didn't like when Squanto got kidnapped and sold into slavery - she is very sensitive to any kind of conflict or bad things happening. But we talked through it and she liked the ending of the story.
My oldest is still enjoying "The Wright Brothers and their Sister." This was also a book project week for DITHR so she did a mobile of Pocahontas which was one of the Folk Tales she read. She enjoyed it a lot, but that and starting her AWANA study seemed to slow down how quickly we could finish school each day. That and starting around 9:30 when last week we were starting around 8:30. Even though it is usually fine to finish some up after lunch, and that's what we were doing, I still feel like I want to try and work on things so she can get an earlier start and work through things more quickly. I think she is capable of doing it more quickly, but she has a tendency to dawdle, or get distracted by her siblings, and I'm not always right there telling her to get back to work. Anyway, we will work on it.
I was glad to hear about everyone else's weeks! Worlds of Fun is a great reward, and the weather has been really great for it!
Blessings,

CTC- Unit 4
Bigger- Unit 4
This week in my blog I focused on the subjects that aren't usually highlighted. You know...math, English, spelling, handwriting, etc. Just for one week, I wanted to let people know what we use for each of those subjects and how it's going. There are also a few pics of some of the projects or experiments for the week.
