A multi week Photo show here I've been super busy doing 101 things so it's weeks 10-13 of Preparing not much on Creation to Christ, Due to Sweet Potato Not wanting her projects posted. SO I'm trying to respect that... I may sneak in to her room and photograph them for posterity when she isn't looking.

Revival to Revolution:
Bread pudding - mmmm! We were all treated to yummy bread pudding this week, courtesy Wyatt doing RevtoRev. He really loves to bake. He has begun searching for recipes in my binder or online on his own, adding the ingredients he needs for whatever he wants to make to our grocery list, and when he has free time, he whips up something tasty. I love it! Here he is cubing the bread for his bread pudding (we had to use wheat bread as we don't have white, but it worked great anyway)...


Dictation - WOW - it's getting hard! And the great thing is, Wyatt is rolling with it pretty well. He misses one about every third day or so, but I'm proud of how he is doing...


Wyatt worked on outlining today in R & S English. I really like how R & S English teaches this. It is straight-forward, and thorough. I can see how this will be a good skill to have. I thought it was neat that the Challenge Exercise suggested dc complete an outline of a church sermon. Our dc do that every week, as our Pastor is great about providing a partially filled out outline. I enjoy the Christian focus of R & S English so much. No sentences about who my ds is taking to prom, or how many friends he sits by at school lunch (other English programs I've looked at had sentences such as these for dc to diagram ). Anyway, it's just a wonderful program!


Wyatt began his DITHOR project for fantasy this week. "Song of the Trumpet" is definitely now a favorite book of his. The highlight - according to him - was when Akara came to the king and defeated the enemy with Keila. Here he is creating a castle from his box to do a Lit Kit project...

Preparing Hearts for His Glory
Riley became a bat in search of nectar for science this week. He used his "probiscus", which is a long tongue to suck up "nectar" from a flower. The straw was the probiscus, the green sugar rimmed part of the glass the pollen, the juice in the glass the nectar, and the coffee filter the flower's petals. He figured out how the pollen would be transferred to a different flower as well. This was so fun!


Riley is enjoying "Draw and Write Through History" so much. He drew Joseph and this went along perfectly with what we were reading in history.


He also loved drawing Moses and writing his copywork in cursive for it...


We learned the importance of following directions together with the pyramid for the history project. We did it wrong the first time, but we got it right the second time. He still has one more day to finish it, but this is the pyramid so far...


We talked about skimming and looking for words in blue on the Internet within Wikipedia for research this week. He did much better preparing for his oral questions this week, and it tied in perfectly to his history reading and project...


Riley started his fantasy DITHOR project. He chose to do a Lit Kit Cylinder, so Wyatt and he will have similar projects. He is drawing the first box here...


We are really enjoying our time together in PHFHG.

Little Hearts for His Glory:
My little sweetie pie is taking off with LHFHG! He is already learning more control with his fine motor skills, and he likes his Ticonderoga pencils.


Emmett was ready to give Reddy Fox a piece of his mind, and gladly dictated a note telling Reddy not to "boast" and to stop being so "bold". He is concerned Bowser the Hound may catch him, because down deep, he really does like little Reddy Fox!


The rhyme has taught Emmett the names of the continents, and he loves leaping, waddling, crawling, swinging, and everything else he gets to do in that rhyme! He liked swimming to the blue paper to show animals in the sea, and stomping to the brown paper to show animals on the land. This was a great tie-in to science...


In math, he is learning to write his numbers. This was a fun activity! He traced the 1, one time; the 2, two times; the 3, three times, etc. '5' was his hardest number to do, so I was glad he traced it 5 times.


We are enjoying our leisurely half-speed journey through LHFHG. It is just great learning, and lots of fun!

Thanks to a "bonus day" last week (which was a sick day where my oldest did not attend co-op, but we weren't so sick that we couldn't still do Beyond) we were able to almost finish unit 14 of Beyond this week. The last day's stuff we will have to finish either some today or some on Monday, but then we will be off the rest of the week for Thanksgiving. We had guests over yesterday and I just found myself unable to squeeze in that last day!

My 4YO is taking a break from the phonics program to read some BOB books. She likes them, they are shorter than the stories in the learn-to-read book. It was interesting that that even the simple difference that the text is smaller, closer together, and there isn't a line under the letters to help the eyes move along was a little difficult for her at first, but after a few sentences she got into it and is doing well.

In Stories of the Pilgrims we learned about the second ship that arrived in Plymouth and their problems with having enough food for the winter. Then how Edward Winslow helped treat Chief Massasoit and he recovered, cementing the great relationship between his people and the Pilgrims. We did a couple of neat art projects on day 1 and 2, and my children are greatly enjoying me reading Trumpet of the Swan to them. We have discussed as prompted what makes this story a fantasy, but for them, I don't think they realize that swans can't really talk, write, or do many of the things in the story. The rest of the story is so realistic, it's difficult for them to distinguish that difference. I do love this story, it's so fun that some of the readings on the lists are books I really loved when I was a child.

We went out of order on Emerging Readers and read Buffalo Bill and the Pony Express instead of Amelia Bedelia. Sometimes I just can't read and follow instructions very well... what hope do my children have? It was a really good book though and the reading is definitely starting to get challenging for my DD which is good. She needed a little more challenge! I am loving the selections she is reading as well.

Melissa, good timing with stories of the Pilgrims! I like hearing about Beyond, because I'm in LHFHG and like to think ahead.

I like to think ahead too! I've actually been daydreaming about getting Beyond, even if we're about a year from it. We finished Unit 6 last week, on Joshua fitting the battle of Jericho, and being obedient and courageous. What a great week! I'm behind on my blog, but will get back to it.
