Is everyone ready for Thanksgiving? It's been quiet the last couple of weeks and I hope you will chime in. I need a good dose of weekly accountability especially around this time of year.

Here's our Week in Review.

Creation to Christ:
Wyatt made a beautiful painting for his poetry of leaves. He also shared a memorized poem in front of our fireplace. One of the highlights for me was definitely his writing a description of a place for Write with the Best. Making his sling for his history project was a favorite for him. He loved slinging his marshmallow at the target, and eating his marshmallow at the end. :D All of the boys gave it a try! One other thing I am really appreciating is how easy Singapore math is making understanding fractions for him. It just clicks. After many years of tutoring struggling math students on the concepts of fractions, decimals, multiplication, division, etc. - it's nice to see it go smoothly with Singapore.

Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory:
Riley has been singing The Star Spangled Banner every day (at least a few times) at the top of his lungs. Big brother Wyatt joins in too. My dh watched them once, and then they got shy doing it for him - but once they did it, they did it a few more times and were back to belting it out. My dh was in the Navy for 4 years, so it's very important to him our dc appreciate our country and the freedom found here due to the brave work of our military. This is a goal of mine as well. At the beginning of the Nascar race they were all watching together at home, the boys stood up, hands over their hearts and sang The Star Spangled Banner right along with the gal singing it. It was a proud moment in our home! :D Thanks to Singapore math - Riley can FINALLY tell time well on a clock with hands. We have worked on this before, but he just couldn't remember it. Doing the activity where he lay on the floor and was the clock himself seemed to help it finally click. Riley loved making his shirt this week with the Godly character traits hidden inside.

Little Hands to Heaven:
Emmett is onto his "C-C-C" sound and one of his favorite things to do is review the letter sounds. He's so proud of all of his actions he knows for the letter sounds he's learned. He loved being Abraham this week, and coming in and out of the makeshift tent we made. He also was able to make some of the marks on the Hide and Seek Pages fairly well on his own, and he found most of those hiding "C's" too. He is so proud to be doing school too, and it does my heart good to see him run to get his Bible and say, "That's MY Bible!" He loves me to read to him from it. This is such a joy for me, as I felt I was not doing enough with him before - this has relieved that guilt in an easy way.

I enjoyed seeing Daisy's blog too! Daisy, your dc's work is so neat and done so well! You can be so proud of them. :D I liked seeing your dd still having fun with tents and Miss Dora the cat hanging out too. This is one of the things I love about homeschooling - home and school unite until it's hard to tell one from the other. :D

Making the sling was a blast! I'm glad to see your son enjoyed it. He also did a wonderful job with his Descriptive Place. Very impressive!

I'd love to hear the boys belt out the Star Spangled Banner! I'm sure Dad must have been very proud.

Sounds like a great week. Thanks so much for sharing.

I love reading about everyone's weeks. I am late this week getting my review up. Preparing last week was great as usual. My ds loved the poetry box as always and also has really enjoyed all he has learned about dinosaurs. The hit of the week was the science experiment of "making a dinosaur egg". It wasn't ready until night time so the entire family got to experience the feel of it. My ds loved watching his sisters face when she grabbed the egg and found it was soft and rubbery and not hard.

He also is loving "Young Christians Introduction to the Bible". His bible knowledge and his hunger for God's word is increasing daily and I just love watching that happen.

Lynn - I bet your ds did love seeing his sister's face when she grabbed that egg! :D That is such a fun experiment. My dc could hardly believe how rubbery the egg felt either. I'm so glad your ds is enjoying the poetry in PHFHG, and we found the "Young Christian Introduction to the Bible" to be very interesting too. It is laid out so well. My ds enjoyed retelling it to me the most. I can tell you and your ds are having a wonderful time with PHFHG! :D I always love the pics of your smiling, handsome son. What a sweetie! :)

Julie,
You are right we are having so much fun with Preparing. I feel so blessed that God led us to HOD for our first year of homeschooling. I know soooo many people who have a terrible first year and many that have quit because things are so tough. I can honestly say I wouldn't change a thing about our curriculum this year and we are really enjoying it and he is growing in so many areas.

Ladies,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your weekly reviews. :D It was so exciting to see your kiddos doing their projects and progressing in their learning. We are having a wonderful year as well, and found that all of the training we'd done with our second son through Preparing Hearts last year really paid off when we began CTC this year! We had a much smoother than expected start. :D

I can see my two oldest sons are both another year older, more mature, and ready for more indpendence as a fifth grader and an eighth grader. I'm thrilled to see each of my kiddos blossoming. I'm also really loving the time spent with my younger kiddos, enjoying them more as my older kiddos are moving into more independence. :D

We pray you've each had a good Thanksgiving! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
