Re: Week in Review: August 26-30, 2013
Despite illness going through our family we got a LOT accomplished.
In LHTH we did Unit 14 about King David. My dd loved this although she continued saying "King Samuel" all week.
We did extra Bible with the Action Bible and she liked that.
In LGFHG we did Unit 23 about Settling America. His favorite was the Science Discovery on day 1 - he got to paint. He did a great job.
We got a little behind in a couple things since he was sick on Wed, but we'll have fun making them up.
My oldest son finished Bigger Hearts except the science! He was sick for nearly 3 days, but we did everything in Unit 32, and the parts of Units 33 & 34 we didn't get to earlier.
We had done most of those 2 units to go along with something else we were learning. We learned more about the Wright Brothers, Vietnam, and Thomas Edison. My son especially loves learning about Edison in Science. He can't wait to get to the experiments he was too ill to do this week.
He is positively 'over the moon' to be starting Preparing Hearts next week! I am excited also.

Re: Week in Review: August 26-30, 2013
Thanks all for sharing! The pictures really help me out, and tell the story! I have been working on a photobook of our school year last year (sadly for about 3-4 months we did not have a working camera, but I still had lots of great photos of our school activities, as well as field trips and other learning things). It is so fun to look back over what we have done also. My 3rd DD is the photogenic one, or should I say the ham for the camera? I have some great photos of her!
This week: Bigger unit 26, Beyond unit 1, and LHTH unit 14. We did 4 days of school, but we will be doing 5 next week as DH has to work on Monday anyway, so why not?
Bigger: Civil War. A time in history I am very interested in and was excited to learn about with my DD. We had lots of good discussions. Also the character quality of forgiveness was one we could really discuss as she already understood it on some level. Many of the others she is struggling more with understanding. She also finished up a diorama for her mystery in DITHR, that was probably her highlight. She loves creating, and she got to show off some of what she learned in her pottery class this summer, because she made the people for the diorama out of clay. She did a great job!
Beyond: My DD surprised me that she enjoys copywork. It was always a struggle with my oldest to get her to do it. But I did approach it completely differently with my 2nd DD, more relaxed with how much she was to copy and more focussed on doing a good job. She has always liked handwriting better, she likes making it look nice, so I guess it is more satisfying to her. She loved the stories of Pedro and Catalina, along with the science activity and other things we did in the rotating box. She misses Rhymes in Motion from LHFHG but she is doing them with her sister in LHTH. Unfortunately I discovered that I had the wrong math workbook... my own fault, I had picked them up at the HS convention I went to and did not look carefully enough. So..... ordered a math book. I am thankful we could do the activities each day, and since we went straight from LHFHG to Beyond I think the review in the beginning of the book will be very easy and no problem to catch up on. I think my new math book is scheduled to get here on Tuesday.
LHTH: My 3rd born learned the letter K and learned about King David this week. So fun! She got so into the play-acting one day that she kept playing it for a while afterward. It was just a little confusing that we were studying King David but he wasn't actually the King until day 4's story. Maybe I made it more confusing by pointing that out, I don't know. But I thought it wouldn't make sense that King Saul is trying to kill King David because David wasn't king yet (but Saul didn't want him to become king). Ah well, she got some concept of it at least. The drawing she did, with David's shepherd's staff and 5 stones, and a line showing Goliath falling down, was all her own work and she was so very proud that she could draw that. It is up on the brag wall.
So glad to hear of others' weeks! I have great pictures but will try to share pics next week.

Oooh, you are one week ahead of me in Beyond, and much more crafty than I am! I am going to borrow some of your ideas!

Unit 3 of LHFHG
Though my son is having a hard time adjusting from last year's curriculum (MFW K) to using LHFHG this year, I think we're going to be all right if the number of smiling face pictures in this post are any indication. He LOVED poking nails through his name!
Here's our post from the week:

I'm a new HOD user, so maybe take my insights with a grain of salt, I guess. I love that I've gotten so much help from others who've done the program before, so I decided to start blogging my journey so that other who come behind me may gain some knowledge (probably by learning from my mistakes, LOL).
This one is my preparation for Bigger:
